Little Big Ranch is the registered name of our commercial beef cattle and horse operation located on the north side of the Cypress Hills, near Maple Creek, Saskatchewan. We run registered Black Angus bulls on our black and black brockle-faced commercial cow herd, selecting for calving ease, maternal traits, and good beef producing conformation in our cattle. We also breed about five to eight head
of broodmares, all registered Quarter Horses. Our horses are a mix of cow and run breeding, going back to Poco Bueno, Doc O Lena, Paddys Irish Whiskey, Docs Birthday, Raise a Dancer, Par Three, and Playgun. Our colts are all weaned and halter broke in the fall, and we enjoy playing with them during their first winter - getting them used to being tied up, brushed, picking up their feet, etc. They are started as coming two years olds - just ten rides or so and they are then turned out until the next winter when they are brought in as coming three year olds. They always remember their previous lessons and are ready to advance in their training! Our horses are bred for disposition, conformation and athletic ability, and they all get a good foundation of life on the ranch - preparing them for success in the arena later on. Some of our horses we keep and sell as older, finished horses, and others are offered as young prospects. For sale by private treaty - or up for auction at the annual Ranch Country Horse Sale.
