If your came..🎃

To the 8th annual Whonnock Giant pumpkin contest...

Then you got to see the 1460 pound winning pumpkin, the cutest gourd and the most spectacular lake side photo booth ever with straw bales donated by Bruce's Pet and Farm Supply and free photos by Rodney Photography.

You got to drink free hot chocolate from Tim Hortons and delicious cupcakes from Purple Heather Bake Shop while your guessed the weights of the pumpkins.

You got to see prize give aways from many local business including loads of Jars of Happy from our farm, Rainbow Eggs Farm

The crowds were lighter this year (meaning more cupcakes for all 🧁) but the smiles were even bigger...and the volunteers were priceless.

The weather was picture perfect and a good day was had by all..including the a few rogue sheep.

Giant pumpkins, yes please 🎃.

The 8th annual Whonnock Giant Pumpkin Contest is Sunday October 18th at 1pm at Whonnock Lake.

In May we handed out free giant pumpkin seedlings, hundreds of them, from our farm stand...and Sunday you get to see what they tuned into. 🌱

Come as you are or being your family to this free community building, agriculture focused family friendly event..oh..and did we mention free

🌱free hot chocolate and coffee

🌱free cookies or cupcakes

Arrive before 1 to make sure your get in on all the activities.

Guess the weight of the giant pumpkins and you could win a prize.

Longest job interview ever..

Imagine applying for a job.

But first ..you have to get signs..to tell your perspective employer to hire you.

And then put them up all over the community....

When you are putting up the signs ...you might have someone honk or yell at you..and not in a good way...it turns out some people don't like signs...

The next day you may have to go back and pick up the sign that got pulled out and broken..and spend more money on new signs...

So you get flyers .....but it turns out some people don't like flyers....

At last..it's time for your interview...it takes place in a big hall, on stage in front of hundreds of people

If you are lucky enough to survive ( and not thow up) you get to do it again, on another night.

You put on your coat of armour and try not to take things personally. You hear someone say you are too old, part of the retirement club, and that you know nothing about education...but you work in education, have kids that attended public schools, are currently a school trustee and have advocated for changes in education for years..... ..but it's when they criticize your hobbies or interests, the things you do for your mental health....that it gets hard to hear.

Out of 106,000 people in Maple Ridge only 34 people have raised their hand and applied for 12 jobs....or are running in this election.

2 for mayor, 16 for council and 16 for school trustee.

Everyone is running for a reason....look up the candidates and find our why.....then go out and vote

Only vote for the people you really want to be elected..and don't vote for the rest.....you do not have to fill your ballot.

And that's it..well...and please vote for Pascale Shaw for school trustee ✔️

Today is number 80...
.....of the 94 recommendation from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was established in response to Call to Action 80 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which called on the federal government, in collaboration with Indigenous Peoples, to create a statutory holiday recognizing Survivors, their families, and communities while ensuring the history and legacy of residential schools are publicly remembered. ( To make sure I got this right I copied word for word from the government of Canada website Canada.ca)

It is not just a day off, it's a day to remember and to never forget.

We are fortunate to live, work and play on the unceded, traditional, and ancestral territories of the Katzie and Kwantlan First Nations.

We have been harvesting flowers and special little surprises all year...and our pumpkins are simply spectacular.🌱
