Howby's Homestead

Howby's Homestead Howard Desmoulin and Tamby Fair are in the process of establishing a small homestead within the community of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg.

Our property is located on the shore of the Pic River just a short distance from where it flows into Lake Superior. Inspired by obtaining the property we wanted, combined with ideas from our neighbours in the community and the help of our family and friends we have decided to set off on this adventure. We have already made a number of changes and upgrades in the year and a half that we have been h

ere, which we will highlight in the coming days. But we have a lot of dreams and goals we would like to see completed as we strive to regain our connection to the land and become self-sustaining. We have always had pets and enjoy trying our hand at new things. When we moved in, we had a number of fish and an elderly dog. After he passed our home was too quiet so we quickly found a new pup, Tippy. She then needed a friend, so we got another, Arlo. Once summer hit, our friends (and family) over at Fisher Farms told us about a duck, George, they had who did not fit in with their flock. We quickly decided to set up a space for him and bring him in. He came with one of his sons, Tom, since they need companionship. After a time of keeping them, we quickly realized that we would like other animals. Our next plan was to get goats but we have now decided we can get set up for rabbits before spring. We will then add goats once we can start landscaping again.
