APPA'S new dine in gives extraordinary service and delicious meals. One of my favorite restaurants around Markham. The meals served rapidly and the rates were reasonable. Waiters are very attentive, and super nice atmosphere. Amazing experience! You should skip several meals before visiting this amazing restaurant. Authentic Srilankan dishes & everything is so tasty, you cannot restraint yourself from having all of the dishes. Book to avoid disappointment it's really worth it. Highly recommended.
One of the greatest events in history is when my buddy Jay and Jessica with with their two kiddos moved to Canada 🇨🇦 last month. It’s been 7 years since I last saw them.
So….what do we do? Why have some delish Sri Lankan food, of course! The Markham Steeles area is the place to go. Loads of shops with Sinhalese language everywhere. It’s a cool place. But, you know what’s not so cool? No sit down eating places! We looked and looked and came across one, but it had 3.8 rating versus above 4 for all the other places which were takeout only. So we settled on Appa's Original. Simple small takeout place. Just a counter, display case, and fridge. That’s it! Friendly counter server. Helpful with all the dishes. Provides suggestions too.
First off: these pics are horrible and I was debating even showing them. Since it was takeout, Jay and I tailgated. It was dark, street lamp lighting.
The food was delish!
So I had the Lamprais. It’s basically a combo meal wrapped in a banana leaf. Normally served with a turmeric yellow rice, they ran out and served with plain white rice. No biggie. Loads of mutton curry, chicken devil, fried anchovies sambal, shrimp chili paste, boiled egg, fish fry, fish cutlet, eggplant moju and cashew, greenpeas curry. Danger Will Robinson: super spicy hot. But so delish.
The Banana Leaf Seafood Meal came in an aluminum container. 🤷🏻♂️ Served with crab, squid, shrimp fry, fried anchovies sambal, shrimp chili paste, boiled egg, fish fry, fish cutlet, rice, eggplant moju and cashew, and greenpeas curry. Also super spicy yumminess.
HUGE quantity! The next day I combined the two leftovers for breakfast. Even tastier!
Oh, and we had dessert while waiting for the meals to be prepared - all meals made to order with fresh ingredients.
The Coconut Delight and Mango Mousse weren’t as sweet as we expected. This is a good thing in my books. Who needs instant teeth rot? Both were yummy treats.
Now the Sri Lankan drinks were something else. So full of sugar and artificial flavours. OK but I’d pass on them in the future.
