❌ MYTH: Kids need bigger meals on active days.

βœ… TRUTH: While some children may eat more when they're active, others may actually prefer smaller, more frequent meals and snacks, especially during warmer weather.

After busy outdoor play, large meals can sometimes feel less appealing. Offering balanced snacks throughout the day can help support energy, focus, and participation.

Remember: every child is different, and sometimes snack-sized works best! 😊

Happy National Cheese Day! πŸ§€

Looking for a simple, versatile way to add protein to your childcare menu? This Cottage Cheese Dip is creamy, customizable, and easy to prepare with just a few ingredients.

Choose from three flavour profiles:
🌿 Dill
πŸ§„ Garlic & Herb
🍁 Cinnamon Maple

Serve as a dip alongside vegetables and fruit, spread on sandwiches and wraps, or use as a topping for items like baked potatoes, pasta dishes, and eggs.

πŸ’‘ Dietitian Tip: Cottage cheese is a high-protein food that can help support children's growth and development. For an additional nutrition boost, add Β½ teaspoon of ground flaxseed for extra fibre and omega-3 fatty acids.

Offering different flavour variations can also help encourage food exploration and expose children to a variety of tastes in a familiar format.

At Wholesome Kids Catering, we believe in making a positive impact, both within our communities and beyond.

Last week, our team proudly participated in World Partnership Walk, an initiative of Aga Khan Foundation Canada that helps address global poverty and create opportunities for communities around the world.

Employees came together to walk in support of this meaningful cause, proudly wearing their World Partnership Walk t-shirts and demonstrating our commitment to Enriching Lives and Making a Positive Impact. In addition to participating in the walk, The Foray Group made a donation to support the Aga Khan Foundation's work in improving access to education, healthcare, food security, and economic opportunity globally.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make a difference, one step at a time. πŸ’™πŸ‘Ÿ

Electrolytes like potassium help the body use fluids properly by supporting fluid balance and moving water into cells. The best part? You can eat your hydration!

Here are some great, child-friendly sources of natural electrolytes:
🍌 Bananas (packed with potassium!)
πŸ“ Berries
πŸ₯’ Cucumbers
πŸ₯¬ Leafy greens

When young children are deeply engaged in learning and exploring, they easily miss their body's early hydration cues. Waiting for them to ask often leads to afternoon sluggishness or unexplained irritability.

Active play completely masks individual thirst in a busy childcare environment. By the time a child stops to ask, they are already running on empty.

As partners in childcare nutrition, we know proactive hydration keeps classrooms running smoothly. Here are a couple of hydration tips for your classroom:

πŸ’§Offer Fluids Regularly: Don't wait for them to ask. Weave water breaks seamlessly into your schedule with meals, during snacks, and between playtime blocks.

πŸ’§Make it Effortless: Keep water entirely accessible. Setting up an eye-level station with labeled, individual bottles empowers children to self-regulate independently.

Small routine changes create massive positive shifts in classroom behavior!

With spring energy in full swing, we are all about keeping curious minds and small hands busy! This week, we’re turning snack time into an interactive building experience with our Caterpillar Crunch Sticks πŸ›βœ¨.

By lining up crunchy crackers, crisp cucumber slices, and creamy hummus, children get to build their very own edible caterpillar. It is a simple way to support their holistic development, one bite at a time.

Registered Dietitian-Approved:
- Fine Motor Skills: Stacking the bases and placing the vegetable "legs" helps small hands practice precision.
- Low-Pressure Food Play: Building their own snack encourages children to explore new textures and colours at their own pace.
- Allergy-Friendly: Easily customizable to be dairy-free, gluten-free, or lower sodium.

Pro-Tip: Get them talking! Ask the children to describe how their caterpillar tastes or sounds when they take that first crunchy bite.
