So....I found out Greg (my oldest) was heading south to pick something up, last weekend. I asked him if he would be willing to pick up a special chicken breed I have been looking for, while he was down there. He also wanted some of this breed, so of course he said yes. (Plus he has the same Daniel chicken math disease I have). So, he brought 34 chicks home with him (to divide between 2 of my children and myself (I had 20)). I had already hatched out 16, got 4 yound ones from a neighbour, got 4 grown chickens for Mother's Day and picked up 2 chicks while the other ones were on the way. You would think that I should be done....but no. I have an incubator full of eggs as well. I think I have a problem. I have 5 new chicken breeds though. Next year I will be hatching and selling pure breds.

We started the cows in their first summer, rotational grazing pasture. It was the first time moving for Baby Bruce. Dexter calves seem to change colours. He started out black, is now brown and will probably change back to black. I would like to get some red and dun colours in the herd.

This is Bea. She has never had babies and may never have them, but she is a beloved member of the family. (That is Bunny, her great neice, on top of her)
I was cleaning goat pellet p**p out of the mineral salt bucket (something I never thought I would willingly do, to keep them healthy), when Bea came up to me and sniffed my face (how they greet me). I said to her...."Do you know how much you are loved? Do you?" I do love her so much! My animals bring me so much happiness and joy (and heart ache). I feel so blessed to be their mama and take care of them. I also feel blessed to be the mama of such amazing human kids too.

This may not look like much, but there are around 60 fruit trees (mostly apple) planted in our new permaculture orchard. We still have about 50 more trees to plant. We will be putting in plum, pear and cherry, with elderberry, haskap and raspberries around as well. Hopefully, in a few years we will have a pick-your-own operation.

Twins!! Last night just before 11 pm, Sugar had these 2 sweeties. The brown one with spots is a boy and the light coloured one is a very little girl.
I hadn't named their older cousin because the name that was being strongly encouraged (Butter), I felt, didn't suit her (her name is now Bunny (born just after Easter and she has the longest ears)). This little girl slipped right out after her brother and I believe it suits her just fine. Now a "B" name for the boy.

Tomatoes and leeks good. Peppers and herbs meh.
