Quick big greenhouse update.

Things are growing well and tomorrow I will plant out the 4 new boxes and 2 trellises that went in today.

A few extra tomatoes and peppers will go in those beds but it’s mostly all different stuff.

If you want to know what I’m planting tomorrow, let me know in the comments!

We got the posts up to trellis the tomatoes.

It’s a quick and dirty solution that isn’t as aesthetic as I’d like but is sturdy and works. We’ll change that next year when we have more time to plan out exactly what I want.

This year I’m going to stick with doing the Florida weave as opposed to puppeteering. I may go back to the puppeteer method next year, we’ll see how this goes.

The other option is hanging wide netting in between posts instead. I may try that next year in one of the beds too.

While you can use cattle panels as trellises for tomatoes, it gets really expensive really fast. That said, they are all I used for the arched trellises that span between beds or as entrance archways. They are great for growing cucumbers, beans, peas, squash and melons.

How are you trellising your tomatoes this year? What’s your favourite method?

Are you growing mushrooms yet?

If not, you should be!

It’s super easy and provides a ton of benefits, not only for you in your kitchen but in your garden as well.

These wine cap kits are from .

They have a great selection of high quality kits that I’ve been purchasing for a while now.

Half the big greenhouse is done! 6 more boxes to go!

I’m hoping to have them in and ready to go no later than mid June but we’ll see. I will still be able to take advantage of them this year even if they aren’t ready to go until later.

I can do another round of cabbage (which I will start in the house sometime in June) and greens and other cool weather crops so we’ll have things to eat fresh from the garden into November or even December depending on how fall goes.

There are still a TON of things you can plant from seed NOW and through to the first or second week in June - yes even if you’re in a cold climate. I’m in zone 3b and still have time.

For everything that it’s too late for, just go to a nursery and pick up some starts. YOU HAVE TIME!

The small greenhouse is also doing really well so I’m hopeful we’ll get a ton of food this year.

Need some help getting started? Shoot me a message and let me help.

And in case you missed it - NO, it’s NOT too late to start a garden this year!!

Sinking your tomato plants super deep into your soil isn’t a great idea.

Since soil temperature will make or break your transplants and how they preform from that point forward, you don’t want to plant that root ball deep into the soil where it will be not only too cold, but will stay cooler all summer.

If you have really leggy tomato seedlings, you can plant them using the trench method instead which will keep the root ball in a warmer soil zone. But honestly, you’re better off just starting off your seedlings properly right at the beginning.

If you are starting seedlings inside they need adequate light once they germinate. Your grow lights should only be 1-2ā€ above your seedlings. This is what keeps them from getting ā€˜leggy’.

Happy planting! šŸ…

She’s coming along.
When she’s finished she will have 10 4x12 beds and 2 4x6 beds, washed gravel pathways and a concrete slab for a table and chairs in the center.

It’s so exciting seeing her coming together.

She’s going to be a stunner.

Just a quick little update on the seedlings and seeds I planted out in the small greenhouse just over a week ago.

Containers aren’t limiting, you just need the right size and the right variety of plant.

You can grow vertically in containers as well! This frees up a lot of space to grow even more.

*look for container varieties - it should say on the seed packet
*if you want to grow non container varieties, make sure your container is large enough to accommodate your plant.
*you can still interplant in containers! (Again, make sure the container is large enough)
*you’ll need to water A LOT more frequently - so make sure to use mulch to hold in more moisture
*because you are watering more frequently (and space is limited) you will need to fertilize regularly.
*USE POTTING SOIL. Don’t use garden soil. It’s not designed for containers. It lacks things like perlite or vermiculite to ensure proper drainage and all of the heavy elements in the soil will settle to the bottom and create a mess.
*try not to plant things in the same container that compete for nutrients. Chances are, neither of the things you plant will do all that well.
