Did you know Saskatchewan is home to over 300 species of native bees? From tiny sweat bees to chunky bumblebees, our prairie province is absolutely buzzing with pollinators!
Our native pollinators are perfectly adapted to our short growing season and harsh winters. Mason bees emerge early to pollinate our fruit trees, while leafcutter bees work overtime during our intense summer blooms. And those fuzzy bumblebees? They're cold-weather champions that can fly in temperatures that would ground honeybees.
These incredible insects don't just help our crops - they're essential for our native prairie flowers like purple coneflower, wild bergamot, and black-eyed Susan. Without them, our beautiful prairie landscapes wouldn't exist.
Want to help?
Plant native flowers, leave some "messy" areas in your yard for nesting sites, and avoid pesticides during blooming season. Our pollinators work hard for us - let's return the favor! πΊ
