This year we’re growing some different tomatoes and staying on top of trellissing.
There’s nothing like a good slicer in a sandwich, so flavourful!

As a market farmer/gardener in Ontario, August is that time of the season when everything is happening all at once and you are put to the test.

In peak season my weeks feel like days, and life turns into a fast-paced adventure, where there’s so much nature work to do that it’s sometimes hard to stop for a deep breath and take it all in.

There is so much abundance on the farm this time of year it’s incredible. This life is what i signed up for and I love it. With it there are some sacrifices, but it’s the good life and I wish more people became small-scale farmers.

That being said - in peak season it’s nice to have a break. One thing I can do to have a solid break is just to leave the farm.

On vacation this week - mostly to lie on the beach. Will be back at the markets next week with some tasty vegetables!

Some of our products today at the Durham Herb Fair!

As a small market garden, we grow a variety of vegetables, fruit, and medicinal herbs.

As a studying herbalist, I also grow and prepare small batches of herbal medicines and extracts - find us weekly in local markets, or get in touch if you’re looking for something specific. We ship canada-wide and take custom orders.

Got these lettuces in just before the rain. Has anyone noticed the black flies this season? thankfully they are starting to calm down.

The tool I am using is called a Pottiputki, a stand-up transplanting device. Loving growing plants in soil blocks, they are so easy to handle compared to plugs.

On many beds, due to perennial w**d pressure, we often lay down this biodegradable corn-plastic mulch prior to planting or straw/hay.

All of our transplanted crops are planted by hand on our farm, often by sitting or straddling the beds. It’s always nice to switch it up a bit to help ease the strain on the back.

Also: We are actively seeking part-time help with planting and harvesting for the season. Please get in touch if you have some free time and would like to work like this on the land!
