Got these lettuces in just before the rain. Has anyone noticed the black flies this season? thankfully they are starting to calm down.

The tool I am using is called a Pottiputki, a stand-up transplanting device. Loving growing plants in soil blocks, they are so easy to handle compared to plugs.

On many beds, due to perennial w**d pressure, we often lay down this biodegradable corn-plastic mulch prior to planting or straw/hay.

All of our transplanted crops are planted by hand on our farm, often by sitting or straddling the beds. It’s always nice to switch it up a bit to help ease the strain on the back.

Also: We are actively seeking part-time help with planting and harvesting for the season. Please get in touch if you have some free time and would like to work like this on the land!

Spring has arrived, and i’m slowly waking up from a long moody slumber into the glorious sunshine with hands in soil. What a time to be alive!

Here i am using my soil blocker at work to start hardy seeds, mostly leafy greens. And i’m getting a little tan at the same time.

I’ve already started about 20 trays in this way (mostly indoors) and every week or two throughout the season will start some more.
Next week, fingers crossed, we will start to pop some early starts in the ground to get fresh greens by late april or early may.

Wherever you are, i wish you a happy and peaceful start to the new season ahead.
