Finally been spending some time in {our new!} saddle this week on my favourite girl 💜

Unfortunately I haven’t ridden all summer with being busy with breeding, foaling and then terrible air quality from the wildfires.

I can always count on Skittles to be the absolute bestest girl, and safest too!

Thank goodness for our new Lovas Equestrian saddle keeping me in the tack on my fancy rocket ship 🚀😆

Exciting news! 📰

Thanks to the sale of a couple other horses, we will officially be retaining Novella Uno WM (Numero Uno x Canatot des Terdrix Z v. Canabis Z / Le Tot de Semilly) for our own breeding program!

I was worried I would regret selling Nelli, I just love her so much and can’t wait to develop her and breed her in a few years. 🥰

My plain bay broodmare band continues to grow! 🤎🖤

Our second pregnancy announcement is Canatot des Terdrix Z (Canabis Z x Le Tot de Semilly) checking in foal to Balou du Rouet! 🌠

After meeting several Balou offspring through the years and getting the opportunity to ride one, I have been wanting to breed to him for awhile now. Candi, being such a wonderful mare, got pregnant first try for the third time for me. 🥰

This will be available in utero… although I’m mighty tempted to only offer a c**t option on this one 🤔

Pregnancy announcement 📣

This one is getting announced first as I’m very excited and proud of this one.

Kanuni has checked in foal to Roark OBF for a custom foal!

How did I get a Roark pregnancy when he isn’t available this year, many will ask?

Well, last year I had extra fresh cooled shipped semen from a collection for another mare and with the blessing of his owner, Jamie Lee, I froze the remainder.

Is freezing 24 hour old fresh cooled semen without a test freeze effective? Well it thawed very well, and had super longevity post-thaw, so I was hopeful, but of course there are changes to the s***m that may have occurred that is above my self-taught education/knowledge to check for, so I honestly really didn’t know if it would work.

Then, Kanuni wasn’t cycling correctly for a long time this year after clearing up an infection this spring. I did breed on another ovulation, but it was definitely a funky cycle and she unsurprisingly came up open.

I was honestly starting to lose hope, did I just waste a year on an incredible mare trying to use frozen that most probably doesn’t even work?

Alas, I checked her yesterday at 13 days and found this big, beautiful embryonic vesicle!

I am honestly obsessed with this guy. He is exactly what I envisioned when I thought to do this cross, Warmblood type, with the Gypsy Cob mind and trainability.

And of course, Pirate gave his gorgeous colour, but Reacher doesn’t need it, he has such presence, conformation and movement that he would be equally perfect solid coloured!

We got some photos and a couple quick videos yesterday evening. We had planned on more, but when we initially took them out we went to the mare and foal pasture. Kanuni and Cornelia have been living as aunties out there, and all has been well, so I certainly did not expect Kanuni to come swooping in immediately upon us going through the gate, scooping Reacher up and claiming him as hers! She had a lovely run with him and even let him try to nurse when they stopped. Derek finally got them cornered and a halter back on Reacher to bring him back to Cheese, who, while understandably stressed and upset, was incredibly well behaved, staying with me, never pulling away or running me over. Reacher didn’t mind one bit!

Whew. It’s been a week! But we are just loving the new kid…

This big guy had a lot of unfolding to do, but I am loving what I see, such a cool cross!

Reacher gets his name from my favourite book series “Reacher” by Lee Child. Also an excellent TV series on Prime, highly recommend. After reading Reacher books all year while on foal watch, it seems only appropriate to name this big hunk after the main character!

Now for a bit of story time… last night I was chatting with Cheese’s old owner, and breeder, Hayley, and had sent her some photos. She sent back a couple edits her best friend had made for her and I asked her to ask her friend if I could post it. In return I got a screenshot of a screenshot of a piece of my website and a bit of a riddle…

The screenshot was my mom’s bio in our “about us” section, which says she was the driving force behind my love for horses. Hayley’s best friend said, “And the driving force behind your mother was me. Who am I?”

My guess wasn’t correct, but pretty close in my opinion… Hayley’s best friend is Kim Coté, who introduced my mom to riding at a farm in Calgary, affectionately known from my childhood as “Chester and Joyce’s”, and apparently even changed my diapers 😂

Cheese is officially a Mom! And an absolutely fantastic one at that, careful, doting, but stood stock still for her c**t to learn to nurse and is incredibly safe for me to be around.

This c**t is a cross of our Gypsy Cob (Vanner) stallion, Pirate and dressage bred Hanoverian mare, Felitsa aka ‘Cheese’ (Fürst Romancier / Londonderry). I have been very impatiently awaiting the arrival of this one and I’m absolutely thrilled!

More to come, because while he’s ready to go and cantering around his stall, Cheese and I are both ready for a nap 🖤🤍
