Anyone else driving between bee yards, tonight, looking for a spot to put a virgin queen? All the others emerged so back in the builder she goes for the night. Bruce will make a home for her in the morning.

Had a wreck in a cell builder this week. A nasty little rogue queen went around and started killing off the 30 developing queen cells. But I happened to catch her in the act!! I was so close to pinching her but I didn’t, YET!!! She’s in a nuc until I have something to replace her

I scooped some of the cells that looked unharmed into protector cages 3 have emerged. As a test we put a bar of cells back in the builder unprotected. The next morning any that weren’t chewed out by the workers were put into nucs and so far 8/11 have emerged.

The calendar says we still have time for a few more to emerge!! Hopefully in the panic and disappointment of the moment we didn’t damage the delicate pupae and these virgins get out for good mating flights.

We made a big mistake when we gardened here for the first time. We used a rototiller and spread morning glory (bind w**d) from one end to the other. It’s awful. Trying to fix it with cardboard and leaf mulch. Bruce pulled these old nuc boxes out of the burn pile and I’m attempting to grow a few things in them too. Fun so far!!
