* Caution: graphic photo* Posie update week 3.

Healing is slow, but getting better each day. Yesterday was rough. Vet was out to cut off some of the proud flesh that is coming in. It was messy, but had to come off. Only half was done today, more in a couple of weeks if it doesn't go away. Photo is from today. More photos in comments as they are quite messy.

She's walking well. Still on stall rest but gets out for light excercise. So happy to see this improvement!

Thanks so much to everyone that has been inquiring about her!

Old rusty screw 1, foot 0. Guess Posie and I are both going to limp for a while 🤦‍♀️ Also, chores when it's getting dark is not a good idea. Tetanus booster this afternoon to be safe.

Posie update. Week 3.

Sorry it's been a while since an update. Between work, kids, animals and vet visits it doesn't leave much time for updates. Bit of good and bad news.

Good news: She's putting weight on her leg and not buckling it like she was. The smaller torn tendon has adhered to another and is healing. The partially torn flexor tendon still needs the support of a bandage to keep it from tearing further until it has healed. She's even trotted normally for a few steps so that's good! Shes still on stall rest (and Serenity is not a fan of it) until it heals because she will want to have zoomies. The area with exposed bone has completely covered over and healing well.

Bad news: Due to the severity of the cuts on her leg, there is alot of exposed flesh, dead skin and bleeding. This is not the area with the deepest cut to the bone originally, but the lower end where the wire was wrapped around her leg. Circulation had been cut for long enough to cause tissue to die even though there were no cuts through the skin. It's dying. It's a mess. It's not pretty. So we are definitely concerned. Our vet had given us 2 different creams and ointments for each area and we cover it with several bandages. One ointment has penicillin in it.

Our vet is still hopeful for a full recovery, but unfortunately her leg will be scarred for life and she will need ALOT of care for the next few weeks.

We aren't out of the woods. There is still alot at stake. Alot of vet care, alot of bandages, wraps and non stick guaze to buy. And always the possibility of returning to PEI if need be. I'm posting photos from each of our bandage changes in the comments as they are graphic.

We are still looking for help via our Go Fund Me or directly to me, Amanda Stevens, to [email protected].

Posie got out for a little fresh air last evening. She's on stall rest for 2-3 weeks but we made a small enclosure near the barn so they can get out while i clean their stall.

She's still in need of alot of help and care. She has bleeding when the bandages are changed and alot of skin dying from the cuts. Really hoping it doesn't get worse. It's hard to see.

Definitely not out of the woods. The vet will come check on her soon.

Here is a little video of them outside last evening.

While in PEI this morning we stopped to see this incredible little Standardbred c**t named Benny at Living the Dream Stables .

Benny was born with wry nose which is a rare deformity. He was born around the same time as Posie and I've been following his story. He is due to have surgery at AVC mid September after some delays due to pneumonia. He's such a spunky boy, full of life!

So thankful to the owners for the opportunity to meet him in person!

Please follow their page to see Benny's story and get updates. They also have a Go Fund Me for his surgery if you're interested in helping.

Look at his sweet face!

Posies discharge info.

It really shows how serious this was and how close we were to losing her.

With pickup shortly comes a very large bill. We brought her here to give her the absolute best care she deserved. We have so many people to thank for that!

If you would like to donate you can send directly to myself, Amanda Stevens at [email protected] or to her Go Fund Me at https://gofund.me/2a7193ac6

As you can imagine, this kind of care doesn't come cheap, and it was not something we had extra funds for due to other unexpected expenses. So the help is very much appreciated!
