Sand Creek Ranch

Sand Creek Ranch All-around performance horses. Well rounded horses that excel in a variety of disciplines from show level to quiet & riding at home.

We've shown on various circuits from NRHA, SHF heritage circuit, reined cowhorse and done a bit of everything in between. Our horses have gone on to perform many different duties from family & kids horses, show horses, to barrel racing, cowboy mounted shooting, English and jumping and 4-H.

Minka has since sold to her new home, but I couldn’t not post these beautiful photos of her with her trainer Hayley Moats who did a phenomenal job with her!

The second photo is of her last show results with Hayley.

We’re getting excited for Sloan to be leaving for training very soon!

Congratulations to Mika and Hayley
Moats this weekend at the Cowboy Dressage show in Davidson where she scored a 78 and 75 in her higher level dressage classes, taking home the highest score of the show (again) and winning Overall High Point!

I am grateful to you Hayley for doing such a wonderful job with Minka.

I believe the water box is such an awesome obstacle for all horses to experience and learn to feel safe doing.

It’s definitely on my list of obstacles that I want to build, so I can do it with my horses at home more often!

They showed in the higher level tests and scored the highest score of the day!🏆

This weekend Minka had the opportunity to check out and play with the obstacles and compete in the Sask Cowboy Dressage show as well.

She completed in the higher level tests in cowboy dressage with her trainer Hayley Moats and did phenomenal & scored really well!

Will share more as I get more pics (unfortunately I couldn’t go).

Here they’re picture in their freestyle class as Freddy Mercury 😜.

Thank you Hayley for doing such an amazing job with her!

Nervous system regulation for horses is something that’s underrated, but so important. These are some really good perspectives that Becki shares here.

Minka is so darn cute in a bosal! 💕

I’ve finally got a picture with little Pickles!

I bought Pickles to be Sloan’s buddy. I wanted to find a mini who didn’t act like a pony and wasn’t a jerk 😂 & I’m really happy that he’s been respectful and well mannered!

And he’s been more fun than I’d imagined. I’ve been taking him out to long trot behind the quad and holy can he make those little legs move fast 😅.

Here’s to many more adventures Pickles!

Take a more holistic approach when it comes to working with your horses.

Slow down & pay more attention to the subtle things your horse is trying to communicate to you.
Get curious.
Ask different questions.
Have more conversations & with more people.

Learn from more diverse mentors.

Don’t just get lessons when you’re riding, also take lessons/workshops/seek out information on: feed, nutrition & herbs, anatomy, nervous system regulation, injury prevention, rehab, etc.

✅ Learn from people who do different disciplines than you do
✅ Listen to horse podcasts, watch YouTube videos
✅ Read books (I highly recommend “Healing Horses Their Way” by Marijke van de Water)

Take notes, apply it at home, pay attention to your horse, write down new questions you now have from real feedback & insight you have from implementing that new knowledge with your horses.

It makes the world of a difference when you take a step back and start viewing your horse from their perspective, taking into account many more elements than just focusing on what you can do once you’re on their back.
