Garlic harvest! Four different varieties and thousands of bulbs out of the ground and hanging to cure for storage. Many of these will be for fall CSA shares, lots will be replanted in September for next year’s harvest and the rest will be offered for sale to those on the garlic wait list (almost full!) 🧄 ☀️

Some moments from harvests over the past couple weeks. Trying to remember to take pictures of this beautifully abundant time of year, but it’s tricky when I’m always running around covered in dirt! We’re growing lots of good food for our wonderful CSA members, and are almost a third of the way through the CSA program. Big thank yous to who works at the farm a couple mornings a week, and to my pal who comes every week to volunteer and keep the weeds at bay 🫶🏽☀️🥦

Lately at the farm…. hot crops (peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, sweet potatoes, squash) are in the ground, plants are looking happy, and big harvests are coming in. It’s been a fantastic season so far, and a beautiful week with lots of sunshine! Pictured here are:
1. Eggplants being transplanted
2. Cucumbers being trellised (baby cucumbers are staring to fruit!)
3. Hoophouse full of sugar snap peas 🫛
4. Peppers being transplanted (bell pepper, shish*to, serrano and jalapeño)
5. So much garlic!!
6. Onions looking nice. There’s eight beds with an assortment of red, white and yellow onions as well as shallots and leeks.
7. Happy potatoes 🥔 interplanted with grapes that were just planted this year, so not taking a lot of space up. Hoping the process of growing and digging potatoes does a good job at prepping the soil for eventual perennial vegetables.
8. Kohlrabi starting to size up.
9. Purple broccolini.
10. Lettuce mix, should be ready soon!
11. Fava beans, with their beautiful black and white flowers just about to open.

First week of CSA harvests and deliveries is done! It’s been a slow, cool, cloudy spring, which makes it feel extra special to be harvesting fresh spring veggies for all our CSA members. Hope everyone enjoys the first boxes… there’s so much to come! 🥬 ☀️

Some moments of springtime planning…a time of much awaited planning, potential and excitement! With the CSA starting in just over a month, it’s been a full week of getting lots of seedlings in the ground and then quickly filling up those empty spaces in the greenhouse with more seedings!

There’s still some spaces left the CSA program (weekly or biweekly boxes of the freshest veggies all grown here at the farm just for you!) with pickups in Guelph, Mississauga and at the farm in Milton…link in bio or head to bhumyindafarm.com for all the details. I’d love to be your farmer this season! 🫜

What a full week! With just about 8 weeks until the first CSA shares of the season, things have been getting busy. Some moments from the past several days:

1. Beautiful oak leaf lettuce transplants. These will be planted in the unheated hoophouse soon and will be harvested for CSA members 🥬
2. Thanks to a grant from , the plant babies have a small heated greenhouse!
3. So much garlic! 🧄
4. Cover crop residue (I’ll post more about this in the future- a big focus over the past season was using cover crops to nourish the soil and work towards a fertility system that’s not reliant on imported organic fertilizers)
5. Overwintered greens coming back to life 🌞
6. So much fruit tree pruning! Apples, pears, plums, peaches and more. Working towards being able to offer more perennial crops 🍎
7-8. A fun side project of growing willow for weaving, and the first harvest 🧺
9. Coyote stopping by the compost pile for a snack 🥕
