We like hearing about things you've tried and either can't find anymore or it was years ago in Toronto. Why? First it usually sounds really yummy, and second (if it haunts our dreams) we sometimes will try to make it ourselves! Not all things are a hit or leave the market kitchen, but if it does pass we will make a small batch and offer it as samples.

This time it is Orange & Vanilla Bean sourdough! It has freshly squeezed orange juice and the zest along with a hint of vanilla bean mixed in with our starter. It isn't an overpowering flavour, but it is noticeable. We would love to hear from anyone who stops in to try it!

*Also available is a small batch of cheddar & herb sourdough made today

Fresh from Nova Scotia: strawberries!

Are you tired of the bland, overly tart strawberries from the store? The ones with the hard white cores and barely any sweet scent? The local ones beat the imported by a mile in taste and texture (at least to usπŸ˜‚) and we are excited to have them coming in!

*we may not have biscuits until later this week, but these are still great with a bit of cream 'n sugar, on vanilla icecream, or just as they are

Open until 6pm, but if you miss us today you can stop in any time after 10am the rest of the week (9am on Saturdays)

What's new this weekend? πŸ€”

I usually don't post this often, but Lynn and Crysta have been extra creative in the kitchen this week!

We are testing out mini double chocolate layer cakes, an orange and dark chocolate loaf cake, and cowgirl candy (sweeter than cowboy with chunks of pineapple). Let us know what you think! ☺️

Lynn has also made biscuits, brown bread AND raisin brown bread today as well as blueberry, apple, and strawberry-rhubarb pies.

*Our broccoli is smaller, but bunched in a bag it rivals or exceeds that of the normal crowns you see in the store. (Limited quantity)

Also out today is both frosted fudge brownies and double chocolate brownies. We have our usual cookies and a new one we are trialling: lemon cookies with blueberry jam! They were thumbprint cookies, but came out much larger than expected. πŸ˜‚

Did you know the ASPCA has an extensive list of toxic and non-toxic plants for cats, dogs, and even horses?
You can find their list here:
https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/aspca-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants

We do our best to answer questions you may have, but sometimes information gets updated and what was thought to be safe is actually not! Thankfully, most houseplants we sell are safe for your indoor pets.
Some safe houseplants we have on occasion are hibiscus, christmas cactus, goldfish plant, african violets, spider plants, burro's tail, haworthia, gloxinia, poladot plants and peperomias to name a few.

Our handy list contains plants that have been reported as having systemic effects on animals and/or intense effects on the gastrointestinal tract.

Sweet heat anyone? ✨

Lynn made a peach habanero jam yesterday and oh my it is good! It has a wonderful peach flavour with just a kiss of heat to it right now (it may get a bit hotter as it sits/ages).
Putting it on crackers with creamcheese is still an excellent way to eat these, but maybe this will make a good glaze on pork or turkey...we will have to try it. πŸ˜‚

Sunshine in a jar! β˜€οΈ

It is a bit difficult to capture just how lemon-y yellow this pepper jelly is, but our Golden Pepper Jelly is every bit as sweet and tasty as the Red Pepper Jelly you know and love! Why not try some this week as a glaze on chicken or pork, or as traditionally applied on crackers with some creamcheese? You just may come to love this sunny sweet jelly!

Brrr, it sure is a cold one today! πŸ₯Ά

To keep warm, why not make a soup or stew?
We have stew packs, or mushrooms, celery, garlic, peppers, carrots and onions if you'd prefer to build your own. We even have warm brown bread fresh from the kitchen in today to go with your supper. πŸ˜‹

And what's supper without dessert? We have strawberry rhubarb pies, apple pies, blueberry lemon pound cake and other ready-to-eat treats available in store.
If you'd like to keep your oven on for a bit longer (and warm the house at the same time), there is also bundles of freshly cut rhubarb (1lb) to make a crumble!
