We got a call yesterday from Country Haven Lodge Miramichi and they had some unexpected visitors. Was probably the quickest and easiest swarm catch we have ever had. The bee vacuum made quick work. Luckily we had it, or it would have been a tougher job because there were even clumps of bees inside the truck. Re-homed them into our apiary this morning. It was the first time we have ever seen bees build wax on the side of a vehicle. The people at Country Haven were awesome! They cared more about the bees, than any damage the bees might have done to the truck. Wish all swarm calls were that pleasant!

A few days ago, noticed a massive swarm about 25 feet up an apple tree near our bee yard. It has been basically raining ever since we discovered it. It amazes me how resilient they are. It was a complete downpour the other night and they seem to be doing fine. I think they are waiting for a nice day to move. Put a Nuc box about 5-7 feet below them and the scouts have been checking it out big time. Hope they move into it. Otherwise, gonna have to knock them out of the tree as soon as it gets dry and re-home them. The pics of the swarm cluster were taken over 3 days. Cool how it keeps changing shape. Even in the heavy rain, the bees take turns getting the brunt of the weather. The wet bees go into the center of the cluster and dry off/warm up, and the bees that are already warm go to the outside to protect the cluster. The center of the cluster ranges in temperature(from 20-30 Celsius), no matter what the ambient air temperature is.

Hey everyone 💛🐝

We won’t be at the market today.

My dad was just released from the hospital after a 5-week stay, so we’re home getting him settled and taking care of things on that front. Family comes first, and we know you’ll understand ❤️

We’ll be back next week with all your favourites (and hopefully some extra sweetness to make up for missing today 🍯)

We’ve got plenty of our delicious honey available… but just a heads up:

🚫 Still no creamed honey (yet!)

When we had that recent family health situation, our creamed honey ended up fully solidifying in the machine 😬 — and getting over 50 kilos out by hand hasn’t exactly been a quick or easy job.

👉 The good news: we’re working on it, and hoping to have it ready for next week!
