Another stand-out cow from the past that has left her mark in our herd and beyond is Oceanbrae Joe 36th EX-91-4E (born in 1997). Joe 36th's pedigree features a wide array of Shorthorn/Red ancestry. Her sire, Kingsdale Peri's Champ, was a Pacesetter son who sired better udders than Pacesetter and was widely used in the UK and Canada. Her dam was sired by Oceanbrae David, a Krause's Edith Edsel son of Oceanbrae Broom 1S, who was 100% imported British genetics from the Maxton herd in England. Her maternal grand-dam was sired by K Schie, who brought so much productivity to North American Milking Shorthorn herds.
Joe 36 was an above-average producer in our herd, producing ~67,000 kgs milk in 7 lactations, with a top record over 11,000 kgs. She was the dam of Oceanbrae Diamond Jack, the first Canadian bull marketed by Semex as part of the CMSS Syndicates program. Diamond Jack (a Prince of Diamonds son) produced productive daughters with strong health traits but only breed average conformation scores. Perhaps his most widespread impact has been siring the dam of Circle B Lucky Strike-PP, who has been widely used in the USA and Australia.
Joe 36th had 6 daughters for us, with the two most influential being daughters of Meriville Prince Edward. Princess Joe VG-88 produced 74,000 kgs in 8 lactations and had 5 daughters, one of who was sold to New Brunswick and in turn produced an EX daughter for the Freeze family. In total, 4 of Joe's daughters were sold to Maritime herds!
Oceanbrae Princess Josie only lasted two lactations and provided us with one daughter (by Famous), who in turn gave us Oceanbrae Ironman Julie EX-90, who we just recently lost at 12 years of age. Julie produced 73,000 kgs milk with above average components and has 3 daughters in our herd.
