Introducing Bluebeary Hill Farm 🫐Hosts Kathy, Scott and Paisley. We’re definitely on an adventure. The reins, or should I say blueberry branches, were lovingly handed over by Chelsey. Here’s a few pics for inspiration. Mark your calendars for an August 2026 harvest.
Paisley is my pruning companion, often sleeping on the job.
Here’s a few memorable tidbits from our first harvest, August 2025.
A very lovely picker (and her mom) came to pick twice. The second time I was gifted the most delicious sourdough loaf made that very morning. What a beautiful, thoughtful, and delicious surprise.
We do happily share our berries with the local bears. Generally the bears keep their distance during picking hours. I almost lost a few pickers when a bear ran across their path while driving up to the house. The look on their faces as they rolled the window down an inch to say they weren’t staying. They did stay and pick after reassuring them I’d be with them with music, bear bells, and bear spray. Which leads me to my last tidbit for tonight.
We all know what to do, or rather not what to do, if we come upon a bear. Right? I’ve lived rurally in Mission for 31 years: Silverdale, now, Steelhead. I’m a pro. Dads forward to a lovely Spring day, 2025, I’m out in our new Bb field, on my hands and knees, hands in the dirt, being a real farmer, meditating, and then I hear the UNMISTAKABLE snort of a bear, I swear in the row behind me. Drum Roll 🥁 You never saw someone leap up and run full throttle to the house, I’m sure I blacked out.
