Research from the University of the Philippines Diliman found that burong isda from Pampanga contains Limosilactobacillus fermentum, a beneficial bacteria linked to digestive health and overall wellness.

This traditional fermented dish, made from fish, rice, and salt, naturally promotes the growth of “good microbes” during fermentation, enhancing both its flavor and nutritional value.

Scientists say these probiotics may help balance gut health, support immunity, and even produce essential vitamins, highlighting the potential of Filipino foods as functional and health promoting.
