Montreal’s Seasonal Matcha lattés I’ve explored, ranked in order of preference:

1. Rhubarb Matcha Latte at Cafe Paperhill: best! Bits of rhubarb in a well concocted matcha. Bonus points for the glass where i can rest my hands perfectly 🤓
2. Blueberry Matcha at Cafe Brut: Tastes fresh and fruity, the sweetness does not overpower the matcha, love it! I don’t like the glass though.
3. Guava coconut Matcha at Cafe Capybara: very unique offerings, strong matcha. Very nice.
4. Beetroot Matcha at Horizon Cafe: love the beetroot powder and the colour. The matcha could be slightly stronger but still a great, light drink.
5. Ube Matcha Latte at Cafe 2nd gen: This is a classic in the city. One of my favourites. It is very sweet though so i treat it more like a dessert from time to time.
6. Banana Matcha Latte at Cafe Cosé. Very reliable, probably my drink if the summer , not too sweet and the banana syrup taste homemade rather than artificial essence
7. Matcha Latte with ube foam at Cafe kuya. Very good matcha itself. My only issue with the matcha here is that by doing a combo it can get vey expensive.

What else should i try?

Best sit down pizza in Montreal, unless i discover something in my few months left here, i doubt it. Top No 2 pizza after crosta. Apologies to Marci for having postponed this visit for so long.

I’ll start by saying i think the vibes will be nicer in fall/ winter. Today, it was too hot, too humid, too many people. We got sat at the bar which was too crowded with traffic. Unless you snag a spot on the terrasse, that would be lovely.

We started with the oysters, they were so juicy, salty and fresh specially with the baby bottle of jalapeno, we ordered another 6.

The meatballs were the size of my head when i was 2 years old. Chunky, meaty, very moist with a sauce that we kept for dipping the pizza.

Now the chef d’oevre, the pizza. Thin crust, right amount of filling. Will i offend people if i say this pizza is more memorable than pizzas i’ve had in new york.

I would have taken a star out as….no tiramisu. Unforgivable….until we tried the pavlova with cream à la baileys. Finished the night with a cappuccino, excuse my italian as I was craving a milky coffee.

A flawless food experience, i would sit in the kitchen if i have to, just to have these dishes again.

Any other pizzas i have to try in the city?

Angellini Café: Manifesting an early retirement in Italy. I swear the italian offering in the city is no joke. But i didn’t expect to have this level of italian authenticity right in the middle of the touristy part of the old town. This is a family owned café that i just discovered on my way home from work so i guess we are having cornetto before dinner. I loved the decor reminiscent of a time I haven’t lived in 😜, also the vault (it used to be a bank). What i also love is the inclusiveness of the place because gelato is for everybody. Stay tuned as I taste more things on my way home.

Let’s take a moment because a restaurant just dethroned my top 2 italian in the city! Trying this for one of my bday meals was risky but there was going to be tiramisu.

Let’s start with what i didn’t like but thankfully got better. A table on the terrasse is only for 1hr45? How do you fit a 3 course meal plus wine in that? That felt ridiculous and took away slightly from the experience, like are you trying to be a fast food fancy spot? I am confused.

The raddichio salad was excellent, every bit was slathered with the right amount of creamy dressing. It was fresh, summery and unique. The ragu pasta, i literally dreamt of it the next day. The meat was tender, juicy in a light sauce and perfectly cooked pasta. This was the special, next time want to try the pizza!

The tiramisu was 15/10 for me. You might not like it if you like thick, mascarpone based one. This one was custardy and sweet, i loved it! Finished the night with a great crisp, sauvignon blanc recommended by our wonderful waitress.

Mastard was such a pleasure and I have maintained this ever since I arrived in 2020: you get Michelin level dining at very affordable prices. But here we go, Mastard has has its day of recognition.

$100 for a five courses with one of the most attentive service we’ve had. There is an original carte blanche menu with products from the terroir so let yourself be surprised.I think the location adds to the charm, we were like, did we get lost? But once inside, it’s a different experience.

Their take on baba au rum was so memorable, I had to order another portion (it was $10 or so). Highly recommend.

Places in MTL i’ve tried recently, god i miss reviewing 😅

Café Goza: My go-to this summer, the staff is lovely and the coffee is excellent. There is a certain humility and inclusiveness in the place and I can’t recommend it enough.

Saturday Café: my lovely ladies at Saturday Café and the beautiful community they have built. The signature matchas on point.

Crosta: Sourdough pizza and the thinnest crust , love. The rossi which is ta simple tomato sauce one is my favourite. I’ve always maintain a good pizza does not need cheese.

Cafe Cadence: Design wise, one of the best I’ve ween in Montreal. And got that inspired Chinatown vibe to it. The shokupan was dry and couldn’t taste the fillings much. My americano was diluted, so i guess I have to try it again.

Coucou les amies. In light of my departure from montreal in a few months, I decided to reactivate this account and share this wonderful city’s discoveries. (I am lying, i just need a platform to share my emotional outbursts 😜). Don’t ask me where I am going next, it’s a surprise (to me too). For now, it was wonderful to be back at Bar Mamie, this has been one of my repeaters over the years and the beef tartare was out of this world
