There are so many ingredients we can find so close to home that can create the most delicious treats.

This morning we’re having farm eggs fried with goat cheese, sun dried tomatoes and olives; salami with fresh herbs, zaatar and a sprinkle of balsamic-style apple cider vinegar on pan-crisped naan. All locally acquired ingredients, most of which - locally produced.

This is but a taste of what we’re up to at the Homestead 🤤

Supporting local, buying local, eating local is the move!

Sometimes you just take a minute to be in awe of the beauty all around you; taking a minute to reflect on how far you’ve come. The practice of gratitude; as blue as the skies and as bright as the dandelions.

Sunset.

A moment to take in the day, and to breathe in gratitude for the life accomplished within it. Never forget the beauty of this small, special life; the short sweetness of it breathing abundantly hopeful and with so much magic. Just like the plants that burst from the ground; the stars that sparkle in the sky; life is brimming all around us.

For that I will always be grateful 🌅

The birds are singing. The buds are budding. The greenery and flowers are blooming out of their winter hiding.

We’ve started potatoes. Our garlic and saffron are growing so well. Soon we will have lettuces and lilacs and hibiscus and lupins; rhubarb and horseradish, strawberries and currants. For now we are enjoying the bright daffodils and vivid hyacinths.

Tomatoes and peppers and onions are coming along nicely in their trays. Such small gifts of reassurance for the abundance of the year ahead.

Our roadside farm stand is opening June 1st! We can’t wait to share an assortment of our fresh and crafted seasonal goods, kitchen staples, and locally made products. We hope you will come by and check out all the goodies - share a conversation and a good laugh.

See you soon 🌱🌼🪻✨

🧄 Selected my strongest warriors today for planting.

I was somewhat resigned that I had missed my chance for garlic this year, but thanks to some inspiration (TY !) and a lovely autumn day I decided to go for it. The earth moved easily, and I even found some onions in the patch where the garlic was going down!

Last year I planted over 400 cloves, and only lost a couple through growing/curing. It’s a robust porcelain that likes the cold (and loved the dryness of the drought). I used about 40 bulbs from my stash for this seasons planting, which equaled about 150 planted today for 2026. So not only will I have lots next year, I still have plenty for prep and projects now 🙃

I may still plant some more if the weather allows, but at least for now I have SOMETHING in the ground. My body is feeling it for sure - but who needs a gym when you’ve got farming?

I also may have been listening to Fallout Boy today, so if you need a hit of nostalgia I got you.

It’s rained a couple times this last week, and we are so grateful. I took this video the other day because I could not fathom the return of water to this creek. Our creek has been dry since July; an eerie absence of something you can always hear, day or night, summer or winter.

Look at it go. Flowing. Small but mighty. Filling, rising. It rained most of last night, and now the sun is coming out - should be a beauty day.
