We are an orchard based Cidery growing apples on our farm in Nanaimo. We grow cider specific apple varieties from which we make a dry full bodied cider.

Going forward after this week we will only be open on the weekends. Our hours for October are Saturday and Sunday 12-6pm. ***r

Carbonic Macerated Quince!
Quince is one of those amazing beautiful fruit that is sometimes hard to know exactly what to do with. Here we wash the whole fruit and then put it in a tank, blanket it in CO2 for a couple months and then press it out. This way we get the beautiful aromatics of the fruit but some of the acidity and tannins are tamed. This give an amazing dry incredibly aromatic c***r. Come give last years a try, it’s really something special. ***r

We’re slowly winding down for the season!
Come one, come all to the last open mic of the season.
As the weather changes we’ll start to be closed more. BUT we’ll stay open as long as people keep showing and the weather stays fine. So come out and enjoy some local c***r and local talent. ***r

Got apples?!
Bring them by the farm during opening hours. They must be sound (not rotten), ripe, local fruit. Bring a minimum of 60lbs and we’ll give you a bottle of c***r for your troubles.

Got Apples (Pears or Quince)!?!
We’ll take them and trade you a bottle of c***r for your troubles.
Fruit MUST be Ripe!!!! This is probably the most important. It’s hard to make delicious c***r with unripe fruit. Most people pick fruit before it has fully ripened. We typically want apples that don’t have too much “crunch”. They should be verging on being a little “mealy” (as this often indicates that the apples are ripe).
To check whether your apples are ripe, cut one or two open and the seeds should be dark brown or black. In many ripe apples the seeds will also “rattle” around inside the apple if you give it a shake. If you really want to get nerdy you can do an iodine test (where you drip a couple drops of iodine on a cut apple and should see no staining).
Ideally we are looking for apples that aren’t super acidic (Ex. Granny Smith = Not Ideal). If they make your mouth pucker they are not ideal for c***r.
No rotten or overly bruised fruit!

Plugging holes!
This barrel has tiny pinhole leaks from beetles. When we find the holes we use toothpicks and poke them into the holes to fill them up. This can turn a leaky barrel into a usable barrel. With proper care barrels can be reused for years and years.

We just have to find out where the leaks are coming from first! ***r

Soaking up the last of the summer rays!
Everyone knows that you can’t leave a pump running unattended, so when you are moving 2600l of c***r from one tank to another, the best thing to do is grab a chair, a splash of your latest c***r , and soak up those late summer rays. ***r
