Volunteer with NFH 📣

Are you passionate about local food sustainability? Do you love working with your hands? Are you looking to gain more knowledge on how to grow your own food? Well we would love your help and in return we will teach you how to grow food and care for a plot of land. 🥬🍅🥕

The Food Hub team will be organizing volunteer work parties on two farms this summer, including here at DMS and the Woodlands Community Garden.

📍 Discover Montessori School Farm

-Last Sunday of the Month (10:00am – 2:00pm)

-Thursdays starting July 9th (10:00am - 2:00pm)

Drop ins are always welcome, training and tools provided. Come as you are, when you can. We would love to have you join us for some fun farming this summer.

📍 Woodlands School Farm

Workshops, garden chores, summer camps and more. Email to inquire.

VEGGIE HARVEST BOXES ARE BACK 📣

We are EXCITED to announce that our CSA harvest boxes are coming back this year!

If you are looking for some local produce grown by our local farmers and the amazing Food Hub team then look no further. This is our second year running and you are not going to want to miss out. 🥬🍅 🥕

The harvest boxes will be available for 16- weeks from July 9th until October 22nd with early, full and late season options.

There are also optional add-on products available each week. Bread, eggs, meat, and more will be available to supplement your fresh produce. 🥚🍖 🍞

Shop items online from the Homegrown website before Monday each week and we’ll have them ready for pick up with your box on Thursdays starting July 9th. 🗓️

Food in these boxes will be a mix of food grown by DMS students, food grown by the Food Hub in the DMS field, and food grown by other local small scale farms in and around Nanaimo.

Everything is fresh and local!🍃✌️

We will have two pickup locations,

(149 Wallace St. downtown Nanaimo).

🌻 Not our Farm Presents: Cooperative Farming 101! 🌻

Join this webinar on November 19th to learn about worker-owned farm cooperatives from Rick Steady Farm, who will share their 10 years of experience as founders and stewards of a worker-owned farm cooperative in upstate NY. They will use Rock Steady Farm as a case study, and just one example of a worker cooperative, deep-diving into their ‘whys’, Rock Steady’s coop values that support their work culture, key internal documents they most often use, resources and support that helped them along the way.

This workshop will be geared towards both beginner farm workers and experienced farm workers who do not have experience in worker coops.
