Tzatziki? Pickles? Crudite? How will you eat all of the cucumber this week! 🥒

At Discover Montessori Farm School we had a work party / pickle picnic today, because no matter what you do with what we grew, it’s good to share among friends 🥒🧄🫚🫧🫙

We’ll be having a processing party next week, and hope to have some fun sauces and spreads to distribute.

~ a local business is seeking 2-3kg of mojito mint per week for the months of June and July, if that is a standing order you would be able to fulfill please reach out and we can connect you!

~ an Island Roots customer is seeking 1KG of Basil, if you’ve got abundance please reach out and I can pick up from you tomorrow. Market price I’m seeing is about $35/kg.

~ Nanaimo Food Hub is planning for a pop up night market late August, first half will be for shopping, second half will be for a BBQ / social, reach out if you’re interested in selling, attending, or providing entertainment

Nanaimo Food Spotlight: BLACK JACK FARM 🐑🐓🦃

“Janine and Chris are the owners and operators of Black Jack Farm,

Their 100 acre farm was purchased by Janine’s great grandfather in the 1940’s, it’s a mix of hay production and livestock grazing.

Janine is passionate about continuing the family tradition of care of the land and its creatures, together with her husband Christopher, who oversees the entire hay-making process, they are growing their business in a way that supports the health of the animals, the nourishment of our bodies and the vitality of the land”

You can shop individual cuts or half/whole lambs to stock the freezer.

You can also shop Black Jack Farms online through their Homegrown shop for local pickup on Thursdays with your NFH CSA box, or from their farm gate.

Feeling quite pleased,

Pleased to see customers utilizing the “add on option” so we can distribute more local products through CSA,

Pleased that homegrown makes it easy for them to do so,

Pleased that the red chieftain potatoes are so beautiful, and the first carrots are equally as charming,

And of course always a pleasure to have friends come by to share the joy and work of growing,
