🍚🐔 Can Chickens Eat Rice? Absolutely!

One of the questions we get asked a lot is whether chickens can eat rice. The answer is YES! Chickens can safely enjoy both cooked and uncooked rice as part of a balanced diet.

Rice provides carbohydrates that give chickens energy, and it can be a great occasional treat alongside their regular feed. Despite the old myth, uncooked rice does not explode in a bird’s stomach. Chickens have strong digestive systems that can handle it just fine.

As with any treat, moderation is key. Rice should complement a nutritious layer feed, not replace it. We like mixing it with kitchen scraps, vegetables, or other healthy treats for a little extra variety.

Our flock isn’t picky - they’re always happy to help clean up a bowl of leftover rice! 😄
