Honeybees are winter survival experts in the Great White North? When the Canadian chill sets in, these incredible insects showcase the true meaning of resilience!

🐝 Teamwork: Honeybees form a "winter cluster" by huddling together for warmth. It's like a tight-knit bee blanket that keeps the entire colony cozy during the frosty months.

🔥 Heat Generation: Inside the cluster, bees work together by vibrating their bodies in unison. This collective movement generates heat, creating a toasty micro-environment within the cluster.

🍯 Honey's Role: Bees snack on the honey they've worked tirelessly to produce during the warmer months. This golden energy source fuels their internal heaters, allowing them to stay active and survive the winter cold.

We were on the fence about whether to do creamed honey this year, but we decided on YES!!

Drone Bee- Male. 👦

These guys make up approximately 10% of the honeybee colony.

Their sole purpose is to mate with the Queen, at which point they die after their successful mating experience.

They do not have a stinger, and they do not help the colony out with any of the other tasks (eg. Pollination, protection, honey production).

I imagine if there was a television in the hive, they would be sitting in front of it at all times! 😂

But, all that being said, they are still needed in order for the Queen to be able to lay fertilized eggs for her entire working life AND they are fun to hold because of their lack of stinger. 👍🏻
