Today was processing day.
At 6½ weeks old, we harvested our Cornish Giants. It was a day filled with gratitude, reflection, and a lot of hard work.
This flock challenged us from the beginning. We started with 52 birds and finished with 43. Even knowing this breed has a higher mortality rate, every loss was challenging.
Today, though, was made so much easier thanks to Mother Plucker and her amazing team. Their expertise, efficiency, and care turned what could have been a stressful day into a positive experience.
Tonight, our freezers are full, and we have food for the year ahead. More importantly, I know these birds lived good lives. They were cared for, respected, and raised with intention from day one.
Raising your own food isn’t always easy, but it reminds you to be grateful for every meal and every life that made it possible.
