Edible Oasis is a small backyard, urban nursery and farm located in New Westminster, BC. We provide plants and advice to help create natural, sustainable, edible garden spaces. Inspired by the ethnically diverse and bountiful food gardens lining the alleys of East Vancouver from my youth, the concept of Edible Oasis came about as I slowly transformed my entire urban lot from a simple grass yard in

to a landscape of edible and native plants, that is both beautiful and edible – it can be harvested and foraged from throughout the year. Check out some of the great plants we grow:

Edible and Ornamental Native Plants
Fruiting Trees, Shrubs, Groundcovers and Vines
Culinary and Medicinal Herbs
Gourmet Vegetables
Edible and Beneficial Flowers
Bee Friendly Plants

Went for a beatiful walk in Lynn Valley with my mom yesterday. We saw lots of huckleberries growing on the forest floor or out of dead cedar nursing logs. There were huge skunk cabbage, a large clump of bunch berries, massive sword and deer ferns, salmonberries, thimble berries, red elderberry and so much more. The forest was thriving! As kids my parents often would take us for hikes and we would stop to enjoy the sites, sounds and clean air of nature while snacking on trail mix or eating moms homemade blue berry muffins with a slice of cheese. I probably didn't appreciate those moments as much as I do now. I am thankful to my parents for all the opportunities and experiences they gave us. Those fond memories are part of the reason I became passionate about growing native plants and creating a food forest in our yard.

Harvested the first strawberries 🍓 of the season last night. Growing them off the ground makes harvesting so much easier and reduces bug damage. They tasted great on ice cream 😋

Happy New Year - glad to say good bye to 2025! It has taken a lot of time and energy rebuilding and repairing things damaged in our shed fire last May. We are finally seeing the results of all the hard work and time. Build back better! Spent the first day of the year replacing the end wall and door on our big green house. We will need to wait until spring to replace the poly. Lots still to do but happy with the progress we continue to make.

An almost endless bounty of plums this year. This tree always producess heavily but this year we picked around 6 large bags and still have more. Enough to share with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers and passersby. We still have more than enough to make lots of tasty jam! 🐝

What an amazing day yesterday. After returning from a walk with Willow I sat by the hives and one seemed to be extremely busy. I opened the entrance to let the traffic flow and the swarm was just starting - the bees poured out of the hive and peppered the sky. They bounced off me in their rush to get out - they weren't aggressive at all but the volume was surprising. They flew over the house and luckily settled on the grape arbour in the front yard. I was able to easily acess them from a step ladder. I put a nuc box under the swarm and lighly put a few handfuls of bees in the nuc - I obviously had the queen and the rest of the bees quickly started to fill the box. If you watch the videos you see them rushing in. There were lots on the ground also so I put the box on the ground later and more bees rushed in. Had them caught and rehomed within an hour. Very lucky to have caught them and get such a first hand experience watching the swarm from escape to capture! 🐝

Returned from a nice walk yesterday and was excited to see the bees were incredibly busy. It was the first really warm day of the year and they were busy on cleansing flights and even collecting some pollen. Overwintering is challanging so it is always a great feeling of accomplishment seeing them doing well at this time of year! 🐝
