Fingers crossed for this special group of eggs sent off to Alberta with nessa poultry! The Galio project has been slowly but surely reaching my goals, though I've still been on the hunt to add another peice in for leg height. The liege are helping this but I wanted to add a touch of indio gigante ( or larger shamo or Asil) to solidify it. Just a touch though, as I do not want to lose my egg laying and robustness.

So what is a person to do when I want some more height in my birds but she needs some solid robust hens that actually LAY well but with color? You partner up! So off go these eggs and if her hens decide to continue their egg strike this season and are unavailable to ship.., then my future eggs should hopefully produce some hens that will be paired with Nessa's shamos and indios next year! Then the eggs from those crosses will travel back across Canada to me to be added into my flock for next year.

Projects are a long term vision but I'm so excited for each step! It's a pleasure to partner up with other people.

First brood of babies went outside today, from three different nests but mom adopted them all. Two more nests are pipping! Already seeing some size differences in babies with more liege influence.

Chick season has started. Looks like due to our current nest raiders, will be hatching eggs and moving them with hens. This Asil now has four different hatches with her inside.

Well, I've discovered why I haven't got any liege eggs and why the egg rate seems down... They eat them and have have raided two other nests once the hens left for food 💀 . SO it looks like I'm going to be needing to do more incubating eggs then moving them under hens for lock down. This does causes issues with hatch rates but atleast it results in some chicks. Frustrating!

I know it's a novelty but the wing thumb claws on the babies are always fun to see. 🦖 Excited to see the next generation of our galio game project.

"Galio" is my idea of the word Gallant (character trait I want in the cross - brave, courteous and spirited ) meets Galiot (ship type to tie in fact I'm on the coast of Canada).
