Midgard Meadery is a Nova Scotia’s only Small Farm Winery (non-grape) and has offered 12th Century traditional meade in the Norwegian style since 2006. The Meadery is part of and located at Scotch Lake Farm in Scotch Lake, NS. As of July 1, 2018, the Meadery became the sole proprietorship of Jen Holtom, partner in the farm operations. The farm is known as Scotch Lake Farm or Scotch Lake Apiaries or even Scotch Lake Beekeepers' Academy as we are all about keeping honey bees. To be a licensed farm meadery (or farm winery) in Nova Scotia means that we must produce the main ingredient in our alcohol beverage ... but in fact, we attempt to produce all the ingredients in all our meade and all of our farm products are free of chemicals. When we must purchase ingredients, we purchase from other Nova Scotia farmers and beekeepers. Organic and natural beekeeping methods are used and taught on our farm and various sites. At our main site at Scotch Lake, we have a small maple grove, 5 small orchards, various berry bushes, herb gardens, cultivated mushroom and other delicacies which we sell from the farm when there is surplus above our daily requirements. We are licensed to sell our meade (as well as our honey and other products) from the Cape Breton Farmers' Market at 15 Falmouth Street, Sydney, NS from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm and from our farm where Jen Holtom will be opening a farm gate store July 7th, 2019 with a private opening for registered guests only. After July 7th, our farm gate store will be open Tuesdays & Thursdays from 3:00-7:00 pm and Sundays from 1:00-7:00 pm where you can purchase all of our farm products including: honey, eggs, crafts, mead, baked goods and produce from the farm. We welcome invitations to events in and around Cape Breton and Nova Scotia. We plan to be back in Halifax, NS in 2019 and every year in early December as vendors at "Have Yourself a Gothic Little Christmas". You may have seen us at Sydney Waterfront Festival, Front Street Frolic, the 300th Anniversary of the Fortress of Louisbourg or any number of events.
