Okay, apparently I have been living dangerously in the avocado department.

For YEARS my trick has been:

I let my avocados ripen on the counter until they’re absolutely perfect.

Then I completely submerge them in water and put them in the fridge.

And when I say completely, I mean COMPLETELY. Any little avocado butt sticking out of the water would eventually go bad.

I’ve kept whole avocados like this for an absolutely ridiculous amount of time. The avocado in this bowl? TWO MONTHS OLD and still looked perfect when I cut it open.

I’ve even put half an avocado back into the water for a couple of days.

HOWEVER.

While making this Reel I discovered that food-safety experts do NOT recommend storing avocados submerged in water because bacteria from the skin can potentially multiply and contaminate the fruit.

So apparently my incredible avocado hack is actually an avocado crime. I’ve never once gotten sick, so I’ll continue living on the edge. You do you.

Also important to note my Buffalo Rouge Brewing Co. Ranch dressing, because I can’t go eat there without getting one to-go 🙌🏼
