Keni, A Taste of Home Welcome to Keni. Your one-stop shop to indulge in extraordinary treats :) Keni is the short term for “mekeni” which means “come here” in Kapampangan.

This is a way of inviting friends or family to come over (salangi ka pa) so a meal can be shared together. Kapampangans are well-known not only for their warmth, and hospitality, but most importantly for being great cooks. They take pride in their food simply because Pampanga is hailed as the Culinary Capital of the Philippines. Being a proud Kapampangan myself, I have always maintained a love aff

air with food. My passion grew more evident when I earned a bachelor’s degree in nutrition & dietetics, & became a registered nutritionist dietitian. When I migrated to Canada in 2003, I terribly missed my mom’s amazing cooking. I started learning how to cook the food I was remarkably familiar with—of course with lots of tips and guidance from my mom. I found fulfillment and joy in sharing my home-cooked meals, and baked goods not only to my family and friends, but also to my colleagues. Their encouragement and wonderful feedback motivated me to launch KENI and share my love for cooking and baking. We will be sharing some of our favourite food—with the sole intention of giving you the most satisfying gastronomic experience. As you savour every bite with utmost satisfaction, it will undeniably remind you of A TASTE OF HOME :)

Ube cookie is made of real ube halaya that has been cooked for hours to get the right taste & consistency. Halaya (jam) is cooked in coconut milk, sugar,& some other ingredients that make it yummy. It is softly baked & ultra tender in the middle. It has coconut & white chocolate that complements its nutty-vanilla-like flavour. 🤤

For those not familiar with ube, it is a root crop grown in South East Asia that is now gaining popularity all over the world. It has a natural purple colour. In the Philippines, it is being used in lots of delish desserts. 🤩

Around Christmas time back home, we would make a big batch of ube halaya. We would boil & peel the ube, grate it, & cook it in an oversized wok over firewood using a huge custom-made ladle. My mom, our nanny, & I would be taking turns mixing it for hours which involved a lot of “muscle power” & “a good amount of loving” 😉 to perfect the taste & its consistency. Our whole family simply loves ube halaya. 💜💜💜

These ube cookies simply remind me of Christmas & many happy childhood memories 🥰
