Brian showed up over seven and a half years ago. Although technically feral at the time, he was inquisitive and wasn't afraid to use his voice to make us take notice. It would take a year and a half before we got him trapped for TNR because he was so wary and intelligent. But he would eventually settle down to love being petted.
We saw Brian and his gang of ferals more at night when they would descend upon the barn once the lights were turned off. Since Brian was invariably the first one in, we wondered if he acted like a neighbourhood watch to summon the others that the coast was clear of dogs and it was safe to settle in for the night. This theory was confirmed this past summer when he became sick and injured and could no longer lead the others inside so the colony remained in the front yard for the night. So now he has gone ahead once last time and will wait for his friends at the rainbow bridge. Safe journey friend.
