Friday evening just after 8pm Dan had texted me to let know hwy 1 (my typical route to the city) was closed due to a fire in Lytton. It was windy at our house and suddenly the power went out. After a few minutes and a text to the neighbour to see if theirs was too I found out a tree had come down on the power lines 2kms away and a fire had started. When the tree fell, it and the lines fell on the barbed wire fence conducting for about 800m, igniting and catching fire along the road
At the time we thought power would be out for at least a day and with chicks in the brooder, which is automated, no water as the pump couldn’t run without power and freezers with product I text Dan, who was away at work, I needed him to come home as this was out of my area to deal with
Without hesitation he was on his way!
We passed on the way around 3am as he was coming into town and I headed to the market
He got generators hooked up and running…..Murphy’s law the power came back shortly after so after unhooking, checking everyone he headed back to the coast to return for his shift Saturday evening.
We don’t have kids but we have our dogs, cats and this farm (which somedays I question what we’re doing) and many lives depending on us and without Dan none of it would be possible
Thanks Dan for all you do for us 🐕🐈⬛🐄🐏🐖🐓🥚👩🏼🌾🧑🏻🌾
