For those of you who knew Nattiya Thatset, this was a very special project the kids took on in her memory. Natt had these big beautiful old windows she wanted to refinish, and unfortunately ran out of time to complete. I had a past of refinishing old furniture pieces, and she asked me if I would take the windows and complete the project for her. They have sat in my garage for a few years, and I had a hard time knowing how I wanted to finish them and what I would use them for. Many ideas came and went, and then along came Ava. She asked to put together a farm stand this summer to sell our eggs and other crafty things we used to make. The first thing she suggested to make was shower hangers. The last time I made shower hangers, we were in Natts hospital room, and her mom and I helped her make dozens of hangers for her nurses and doctors. This event also resulted in the no scents allowed sign on my following visit, but we had a good laugh about it. It all felt perfect.
I taught the kids how to take off old stain, how to tape off the glass, and they layered their paints and distressed the wood. Together, they finished the window and used it to hang their hand made products from. I know Natt would have been so proud of them for all of their hard work and dedication to completing their stand. With that, they finished the window, made products to hang, and it became the first piece of our "in town farm stand". Natt was an incredible friend and Nanny to our kids, and there is not a day that goes by I don't think of her.
