Nk'Mip Cellars

Nk'Mip Cellars The first Indigenous-owned winery in North America and past InterVin's Winery of the Year. Please enjoy responsibly.
(1085)

This lakeside property is located on 1,200 acres of band land located in the town of Osoyoos. This southern Okanagan area is home to Canada's only pocket desert. With some of the most spectacular views in the Okanagan, this region is well known for its long, hot summer days and cool nights, mild winters and minimum rainfall. All of these factors contribute to this fabulous grape-growing region.

Qwam Qwmt means achieving excellence.

It is the standard this tier has always been held to. And now, for the first time, it extends to a Rosé. Same desert. Same intention. A new expression of what this place is capable of.

Our new Qwam Qwmt Rosé is coming soon.

Today we pause.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is not a celebration we observe from the outside. It is a day that lives at the heart of what this place is. The Syilx Okanagan people have called this land home since time immemorial.

Their language, their food, their relationship to this desert and this water- it is woven into everything we grow and everything we serve.

We are guided by a deep respect for that history. Today and every day.

A few reasons to stay a little longer this summer.

Happy Hour at Sweetgrass runs Monday through Thursday, 3:30 to 5pm. Join us for stone-fired pizzas, snacky bites, and a menu made for the afternoon. Order a bottle of wine and we'll bring you a complimentary Margherita Pizza to go with it.

Every other Wednesday during Happy Hour, we're welcoming live music to the Sweetgrass patio: rotating artists, good wine, and the kind of afternoon that's hard to leave.

Reservations recommended for all experiences. Book at the link in bio.

The summer solstice arrives this week, the longest day of the year, when the light lingers longest over the desert and the vines.

For the Syilx Okanagan people, the seasons have always been a guide. The land sets the rhythm. Everything that grows here, the grape, the sage, the berry, knows this moment well.

National Indigenous Peoples Day falls on June 21st, the same week the sun reaches its peak. That alignment feels intentional. A reminder that this place has always marked time differently.

Rosé Day deserves something worth waiting for.

Our Qwam Qwmt Rosé is almost here. Grown on this desert estate, held to the highest standard this tier has always carried. Qwam Qwmt means achieving excellence, and this Rosé is no exception.

Stay close. It won't be long.

In 2002, Nk'Mip Cellars became Canada's first Indigenous-owned winery.

It was not a symbolic gesture. It was an economic decision, a cultural one, and a statement about what this land is capable of producing. The Osoyoos Indian Band has built something here that is entirely their own, rooted in place, guided by stewardship, and growing with intention.

We are proud to be part of that story.

Every dish on the Sweetgrass menu is connected to this land.

The saskatoon berry has sustained the Syilx Okanagan people since time immemorial, it is one of the Four Food Chiefs in Syilx oral tradition. Fry bread carries the history of resilience and adaptation. Bison belongs to a land-based food relationship that predates this winery by thousands of years.

We don't put these things on the menu to tell a story. We put them on the menu because they belong here.

This summer, come experience it yourself. Join us for lunch at Sweetgrass, or explore our Three Sisters Tasting and Blind Cheese and Wine Experience, three ways to sit with this place, this food, and these wines a little longer.

This desert has been tended for thousands of years.

The Syilx Okanagan people have stewarded this land, its water, its wildlife, its cycles, long before there were vines planted on it. The Osoyoos Indian Band continues that stewardship today, including through over 1,600 acres of protected desert conservation land at the Nk'Mip Desert Cultural Centre.

The wine comes from this place. So does the responsibility to care for it.

On June 21st, National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour that relationship, and the people who have held it since time immemorial.

Way'

In Nsyilxcən, the language of the Syilx Okanagan people, Way' is how we begin. It carries the acknowledgement that what has come before is complete, and that everything from this moment is possibility.

A single word that holds an entire way of seeing the world.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is June 21st. We'll be marking it all month.
