Early summer in the Farm Store is all about greens 🥬

Spinach, arugula, lettuce, kale, chard, bok choi, tokyo bekana - the list goes on and on! Early greens are extra juicy and tender, perfect for enjoying in fresh salads or blended into a smoothie, as well as cooked in pastas, eggs, or stir-fries 🥗

✔️ How to store Farm Fresh greens:

🥗 Our salad greens (arugula, spinach, and mesclun mix) are triple-washed and ready to eat straight from the bag. To keep them fresh for as long as possible make sure to keep the bag tightly sealed in the fridge.

🥬 All of our other greens, from head lettuce, to bok choi, to tokyo bekana and chard are also best stored in a sealed bag or container, but these require a wash before use.

You'll find lots of recipe inspiration for all these greens on our website - head over and get cooking! Link in bio

As another week at the Farm Store begins, we're excited to start our team introductions with the folks who help make the Farm Store such a beautiful and welcoming space 💖

Meet the friendly faces you'll see when you stop by this season:

🌻 Jenn
Farm Store Co-ordinator & Flower Grower

Jenn first got to know Ottawa Farm Fresh through her sister Amanda and quickly fell in love with the community.

After retiring from a career as a massage therapist, she was excited to continue helping people by connecting them with healthy, locally grown food.

Her favourite part of the job is getting to know members and seeing how happy they are when they visit the Farm. While she loves growing flowers and tomatoes, mustard greens are her favourite vegetable to eat.

✨ Fun Fact: Outside of the Farm, Jenn enjoys growing flowers and herbs and taking on all kinds of crafty projects.

🫜 Jessyca

Jessyca first joined Ottawa Farm Fresh in 2023 and is excited to be back, reconnecting with familiar faces and meeting new members.

A holistic nutritionist with experience on organic farms in Canada and abroad, she loves connecting with people and sharing her passion for healthy eating. Her favourite vegetable is beets.

✨ Fun Fact: Outside the Farm, Jessyca loves swimming, dancing, and reading romantic historical novels in French.

🧄 Piper

Having experienced every season at Ottawa Farm Fresh, Piper believes there's something special about knowing the people and land behind your food.

Their favourite part of the job is connecting with members of the community, whether that's sharing gardening tips, talking dinner plans, or catching up on life. They're especially fond of garlic, onions, and garlic scapes.

✨ Fun Fact: If you stop by the Farm Store, don't be surprised if Piper asks what you're making for dinner, they genuinely want to know.

Be sure to say hello when you visit the Farm Store this week. We're lucky to have such a wonderful team helping create a welcoming community around local food 💚

We believe the people behind your food deserve to be celebrated just as much as the food itself.

The veggies in the Farm Store are just the final link in a chain of dedicated people who work hard throughout the season to bring fresh food from our fields to your table.

Ottawa Farm Fresh began with a simple idea: grow healthy food, care for the land, and build community. Today, that vision is brought to life by a small but mighty team!

Together, we're the people who seed, plant, w**d, harvest, wash, pack, stock shelves, answer questions, share recipes, and welcome you to the Farm each week.

Stay tuned over the coming weeks as we introduce the 2026 team - the dedicated folks who grow your food!

And what a perfect time to celebrate! As the weather warms up, the Farm Store shelves are starting to fill with fresh seasonal produce and local favourites. The growing season is well underway, and we're excited to share the best of what our local farmers and food makers have to offer.
