Sierra’s first “crossrail”!

I love that we were able to capture this “first” on camera, with my mare. ♥️

Thanks Debbie Stocker for encouraging us to play over some poles this weekend! 🤩

On the same day that I had the privilege of riding Koko, another 2018 Lazy Lou Quarter Horse, I got to spend some time with my own mare, Sierra.

This weekend she trotted her first course of poles, and she was an absolute star.

Sierra isn’t in consistent work right now, which makes these little victories even more meaningful. Every ride reminds me how much she is maturing. She’s learning to focus, gaining confidence, and starting to trust that the questions I’m asking have good answers waiting on the other side.

What makes me proud isn’t perfection, it’s her willingness to try. Each time I swing a leg over, she shows up ready to learn, and that’s all I can ask of a young horse.

It’s been fun to see two 2018 Lazy Lou horses at different stages of their training journey in the same day. From one of the first rides under saddle to confidently tackling new challenges, good foundations really do matter.

Thank you to Debbie Stocker of Angel Rock Farm for all of the guidance and support along the way.

One of the highlights of my weekend was getting the opportunity to sit on Koko, a 2018 Lazy Lou Quarter Horse owned by Debbie Stocker of Angel Rock Farm. Debbie Stocker Debbie Stocker

Every horse starts somewhere, and this young gelding is learning that having a rider on his back can be a calm, positive experience. During our session, we worked on simple walk-halt transitions in a rope halter while Debbie guided him on a long lead. By pairing seat, leg, and rein aids with familiar voice and body language cues from his handler, we helped him begin to connect the dots between groundwork and ridden work.

There’s something special about being part of those early moments when a horse starts to understand a new language. You can see the difference between the first downward transition, where he wasn’t quite sure what we were asking, and the last one, where he settled right into the halt with no fuss! Koko approached the lesson with a quiet, willing attitude, and I’m excited to watch his journey continue.

Thank you, Debbie, for trusting me to be part of his education!

Finn’s First Ride 🖤

Yesterday, we decided it was time for Finn, a three-year-old Warmblood, to graduate from groundwork to mounted work.

After spending time building confidence, trust, and understanding from the ground, his owner quietly mounted from the mounting block while I stayed beside them as Finn’s emotional support human, leading him around on a lead rope.

For a young horse experiencing his very first walk under saddle with a rider, Finn was an absolute superstar. He stood quietly for mounting, walked forward confidently, and took everything in stride.

One of my favourite parts of starting young horses is seeing the payoff from taking the time to build a solid foundation first. There was no rushing, no drama, and no pressure, just a horse who understood the assignment and felt safe enough to try something new.

A huge congratulations to Felicia and Finn on this exciting milestone. This is just the beginning of their journey together, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this pair. ❤️
