Not every classroom has an oven like this. 👨‍🍳🔥

Recently, our students had the opportunity to learn from Henry and the team at Rational during a hands-on workshop in the Chef Ric's kitchen.

From cooking techniques and equipment best practices to getting the most out of commercial kitchen technology, students gained valuable knowledge they can carry into future culinary careers.

Community, mentorship, and great food all in one room. 👨🏻‍🍳

Last week, the Chef Ric’s team proudly participated in Taste for Hope in support of the Shepherds of Good Hope.

From preparing and plating dishes to interacting with guests throughout the evening, our students and chefs were proud to be part of an event that brings people together for an important cause.

Something fresh is coming to tables across Ottawa. 🥗

Over the last several months, our team has been working behind the scenes on a collection of products inspired by community, hospitality, and fresh ingredients.

Today, we’re excited to share a first look at Chef Ric’s Italian Vinaigrette inspired by the microgreens grown in our sustainable vertical container farms and crafted for everything from salads to everyday meals at home.

As part of The Ottawa Mission’s Chef Ric’s Market Selections line, our newest product will soon be arriving in stores across Ottawa.

Over the last several months, our team has been working behind the scenes on a project inspired by our community and today we’re finally giving you a small first look.

Mission Blend whole bean coffee will soon be arriving in stores across Ottawa as part of The Ottawa Mission’s Chef Ric’s Market Selections line.

Last Thursday, the Chef Ric’s team had the opportunity to be part of the Give to Get Art Auction.
It was a wonderful evening filled with art, community, and connection, and our students were proud to help serve guests throughout the event.

These experiences are an important part of the hands-on learning environment at Chef Ric’s, giving students the opportunity to build confidence and gain real hospitality experience while engaging with the wider Ottawa community.

From the classroom to live events this is hands-on learning in action.

Students from the Food Services Training Program and the Chef Ric's team members recently participated in the Kiwanis Feeds Kids Kiwanis Feeds Kids event, gaining firsthand experience in a professional event setting.

From plating and presentation to guest interaction and teamwork, students had the opportunity to put their training into practice while serving attendees at one of Ottawa’s important community events.

These experiences are a meaningful part of helping students prepare for future employment opportunities in the culinary and hospitality industries.

A special thank you to everyone who supported the event and encouraged our students throughout the evening.

From this… to this. 👀

Last week’s BBQ lunch on the YMCA patio started with an empty space then turned into a busy lunch rush despite the chilly weather.

We wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who stopped by, grabbed lunch, and spent part of their afternoon with us. Seeing the patio come back to life again after winter was great. ❤️

Weather permitting, we’ll be back again this Thursday, May 28th, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone.

What does it actually take to run a successful food business?

At Chef Ric’s, our students are learning that the culinary industry is about much more than cooking.

In the last week , the Food Services Training Program welcomed Elizabeth Kilvert, founder of The Unrefined Olive, who delivered a lecture on retail and business operations for our students.

Sessions like these give students valuable insight into the realities of the food industry from customer experience and operations to building sustainable food-focused businesses.

We’re incredibly grateful to the community leaders and professionals who continue to invest their time into helping our students grow both personally and professionally.

Thank you Elizabeth for sharing your experience and knowledge with our cohort. 👏
