The best bites deserve the best sips!

We are so jazzed to be joining the incredibly stacked line up at this year's Ottawa Citizen Best Restaurants being held Oct 19 at the National Arts Centre.

The second annual Ottawa Citizen Best Restaurants event will bring together 600+ food lovers for an unforgettable evening of signature dishes and unique beverages.

This year’s menu features fine-dining hotspots and hidden gems (check the stacked line up below!), all hand-picked by the Citizen's renowned restaurant critic Peter Hum, with a portion of ticket sales being donated to the event’s charitable partner, the Ottawa Food Bank | La Banque d’alimentation d’Ottawa!

Held in the historic Canal Lobby of the NAC on Monday, October 19, the event will celebrate Ottawa’s rich culinary landscape, giving eventgoers the chance to eat, drink and connect with journalists from the Citizen newsroom and with some of Ottawa's best chefs and food industry pals.

We'll be donating 100% of sales today to Downie Wenjack Fund.

For today's National Day For Truth and Reconciliation we are thinking of Chanie and all the kids like him.

Chanie Wenjack, misnamed Charlie Wenjack by his teachers, was an Anishinaabe boy born in Ogoki Post on the Marten Falls Reserve on January 19, 1954. Chanie’s story, tragically, is like so many stories of Indigenous children in this country; he fell victim to Canada’s colonization of Indigenous Peoples.

In 1963, at the age of nine, Chanie was sent to the Cecilia Jeffrey Indian Residential school in Kenora, Ontario. In 1966, at 12 years old, Chanie ran away from the residential school, attempting to reunite with his family, who were 600 kilometres away in Ogoki Post. Nine others ran away that same day; all but Chanie were caught within 24 hours.

Chanie’s body was found beside the railway tracks on October 22, 1966, a week after he fled. He succumbed to starvation and exposure. In his pocket was nothing but a little glass jar with seven wooden matches. His death sparked the first inquest into the treatment of Indigenous children in the residential school system, and years later, inspired Gord Downie’s album, Secret Path and the creation of the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund (DWF) which sales are being donated to today.

Limited supplies as the festival mostly wiped us out. Whatever is left we'll put online tomorrow and can ship it whenever or pick up at the roastery.

We'll also have some other light roasts on offer, and we MIGHT be sampling some of the comp coffee and some other funky coffees (we say might because Roaster Will is holding it down tonight and he doesn't like to schlep, but we'll continue to nudge him into sampling submission).

Just over a week out till Coffee Right YOW Festival on Sept 12!

Est./Depuis 1924 is about to be taken over by over 25 roasters and tea houses, over 20 food vendors and the World AeroPress® Championship regionals. And it's all free to attend and enjoy samples galore.

We've added three roasters to our already stacked line up. Help us welcome Portebleue lot_mtl Escape Coffee Company®️.

We'll be hitting the socials hard over the next week to further highlight all the awesome vendors and sponsors coming and to provide some tips and info on how best to enjoy the festivities!

All the FREE things to do Sept 12 at Coffee Right YOW Festival!

This event is for everyone, so bring the whole family and see all the FREE things there are to do and try at Ottawa's premier coffee fest:

☕ Sample coffee and teas from over 25 roasters and tea houses from across Canada. And support them by buying some bags and some merch if you can!

🧋Free drinks at our two micro Espresso Bars thanks to our sponsors Henrietta Lait Barista x T2 Montreal x Eight Ounce Coffee. A rotating selection of beans from various roasters will be on display and we'll have vegan options as well for the flat whites.

🍿Watch the AeroPress Coffee Maker Ottawa Regionals happening at the park stage at 11 am (should last 2-2.5 hours) so come by and take a break in the beautiful park (some limited seating and picnic blankets/pillows available thanks to our hosts Est./Depuis 1924. You'll also be able to buy bags of the competition's coffee the competitors are using at the Merch/Info Booth and Artery booth. Sample the coffee at Intentionally sourced green coffee booth.

💦 Refresh your palate at the free seltzer station thanks to our sponsors and pals at City Seltzer. And keep an eye out when hanging in the park or stuck in line somewhere, wave down the City Seltzer beverage backpack that will be roaming the festival. There will also be an Artery cold brew lemonade backpack so flag them down if you need a quick slash.

Coffee Right YOW Festival is for the tea lovers too! 🍵

Say hi to Genuine Tea Co. D O N A Maison de thé Cha Yi Just the Tea™ – thés & tisanes bio 🌱

We couldn't let coffee lovers have all the fun. We built this festival to be for everyone, even people who don't like coffee (we know, but it happens).

And plus, it's okay (and beneficial) to dip your taste buds into both the coffee and tea worlds. Also, tea is really just the original co-ferments.

We have some awesome tea houses joining us!

🫖Joining us from Toronto we have Genuine Tea Co., which you've probably seen in many local cafés and maybe even on Dragon's Den! Founded in 2015 by Sarah and David after five years living in Taiwan, Genuine Tea began with a simple mission: to bring freshness and transparency to the tea industry. All their teas are direct trade and 1% of all sales are donated to the Canadian Mental Health Association. They also donated an awesome prize pack to our raffle and we'll share those deets in another post.

🧉All the way from Brooklyn are our pals and sponsors D O N A. Dona is a small Brooklyn-based tea company that aims to foster relationships with farmers, increase supply chain transparency, and deliver the highest quality tea, herbs & spices. More roaster pals Coffee Right YOW Festival! 🫘

First up, our dear pals and sponsors 94 Celcius roasting out of Montréal!

94 Celcius was founded in 2017 by our friend Marc-Alexandre, a gastronomy and coffee enthusiast with a background in biochemistry (B.Sc.) and pharmacology (M.Sc.). Before dedicating himself to specialty coffee, he participated in university research on autophagy, cell signaling, and molecular physiology.

What began as a deep dice into flavors quickly became one of Quebec's most ambitious speciality coffee projects: to build a roastery where science, roasting, and human relations work together to push the boundaries of coffee standards.

Today, 94 Celcius collaborates with some of the industry's most innovative producers, including Diego Samuel Bermúdez, Wilton Benitez, Pepe Jijon, and Sebastian Ramirez, recognized for their experimental approaches to coffee fermentation and processing.

94 Celcius actively participates in the evolution of the Quebec coffee scene, notably through Café Collectif where Marc-Alexandre is on the Board and has been a great help to us here at Coffee Right YOW Festival!

We're so glad to host the 94 Celcius team and their funky coffees!

Ottawa-Gatineau greats over at Café Cloudforest Coffee!

Cloud Forest Coffee has cafés on both sides of the river to serve and sell their coffees which are all from the Intag, a beautiful valley in the Ecuadorian Andes.

The community they source all of their coffees from, has been struggling against mineral exploration for 20 years. They have created a vision of development that does not include mining.

Their vision includes a healthy environment, safe sources of water, and harmony in their communities. Instead of allowing mining companies to devastate their pristine environment, many are pursuing different methods of economic growth, like growing organic coffee.

Cloud Forest's coffee is purchased from a farmers’ co-operative called AACRI. The cooperative was started as an alterna

Aeropress Comp Coffee! Miguel Augusto Ortega does not miss!

We are so glad to have worked with our pals and festival sponsor at Intentionally sourced green coffee to source a coffee from an amazing producer who is no stranger to our menu, Augusto Ortega.

His beautiful Sidra will be used as the competition coffee for the Ottawa World AeroPress® Championship Regionals taking place at the Coffee Right YOW Festival festival Sept 12 at Est./Depuis 1924.

We really love this coffee. When we brew it, we get these overwhelming fresh apple juice notes to start and ripe tart berries to finish. It's delicate and vibrant and it's all thanks to the magical skills of Augusto. His coffees are always brilliant. And this one might be his best yet. It's the perfect coffee to end the summer and we can't wait to see what competitors do with it!

We will also have some for sale on our website soon, and at the Merch/Info tent at the festival. Limited quantities so don't miss out!
