Happy Mother's Day to all our motherly customers and followers! "Ewe" work hard to take care of your family, and "ewe" deserve recognition for your many labours of love.

Here are a few photos of the new mothers on our farm. Lambing began on April 21st and ran until May 7th. What a joy to welcome 15 cuddly, healthy, leaping lambs to our flock this Spring!

Not all chicken is created equal.

Years and years ago--before we became a commercial farm--we began raising our own chicken for meat, focusing on raising them with the utmost regard for the birds' enjoyment of simple, sustainable, old-fashioned comforts. Once "feathered out," they are able to leave their nursery compound and spend their best lives outside on pasture amidst sunshine, lush grass, dappled shade, plenty of space to roam around, and wholesome feed.

We've never gone back to buying chicken at the supermarket. Yes, it is more expensive and labour-intensive to produce chicken this way. But the taste, the texture, and the healthiness of good old-fashioned chicken is worth all the work and expense. It's also better for the local economy, for the environment, and for the land we steward.

Back in 2008, we started making our government-inspected, small-batch chicken harvest available to the public. And you---our beloved customers---told us time and again how much you valued what we were accomplishing by making REAL chicken available to you.

We have listened over the years to your growing accolades, and have been increasing our production of wholesome, pastured chicken as much as possible without compromising any of our values or methodologies.

So instead of producing only 50 or 100 chickens for you each year, in 2025 we are producing *three batches* of 100 chickens.

This year, you can choose from the following availability dates:

* Wednesday, July 2nd
(pick up that evening or between July 3rd and 6th)

* Wednesday, August 20th
(pick up that evening or between August 21st and 24th)

* Wednesday, October 1st
(pick up that evening or between October 2nd and 5th)

Whole chickens are $6.00/lb.

You will need to supply a deposit of $50 for your order of 2 or more whole chickens (or equivalent in chicken parts). You will be credited back your deposit when you pick up your order.

Delivery within west Ottawa or Carleton Place area is free for orders over $100, or just $10 for orders below $100.

Average size is about 6 lbs.

Message us here or send us an email at [email protected] to pre-order yours!

An update from our apiary

With the advent of a few warmer days of Spring, we were finally able to lift the covers on our bee colonies to check on their overwintering statuses. Sadly, despite our best efforts to winterize them using industry best practices and equipment, every one of our colonies died.

And we're not alone in these tragic results.

Beekeepers all across North America are suffering catastrophic losses of their colonies by the time Spring arrives--and it's not just in cold climates like ours here in the Ottawa Valley.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/25/honeybees-deaths-record-high

Here's some good news, though: we're able (and willing) to rebuild using commercially available "package bees." This coming Monday, we will install 4 bee packages in our apiary to begin the process of rebuilding our beloved apiary.

We also have 4 nucs (that's bee-speak for "nuclear colonies") on order, which will be added to our apiary in late May.

The cost to rebuild exceeds $4,000, which is big money for a small farm like ours.

You have told us how addicted you are to our sublime, exquisitely perfumed honey! And we are very, very committed to protecting the future of honey bees in our local area.

So join us in praying for a productive, protected, and prolific beekeeping year in 2025 on our family farm so that we can offer you more of "the good stuff" that our precious bees love to make for you to enjoy!

P.S. We are now SOLD OUT of our 2024 honey supply. Our next harvest will be in late August or early September 2025.
