Ingenium operates three national museums in Ottawa that cover soil to space–and everything in between. Located on a national heritage site, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is the world’s only working farm in the heart of a capital city. The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to see diverse breeds of farm animals—important to past and present Canadian agriculture—and to learn about

the food they eat. In addition to breeds common to Canadian agriculture, such as Holstein dairy cows and Angus beef cows, the museum also has Canadienne and Milking Shorthorn dairy cows, and Tamworth pigs. Many other breeds of dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, poultry, goats, rabbits and even honeybees round out the collection. Museum programs and exhibitions are related to Canada’s agricultural heritage, food literacy, and the benefits and relationship of agricultural science and technology to Canadians’ everyday lives. Public programming also includes school programs, summer day camps, interpretive tours, demonstrations, and joint undertakings with community groups and associations.

Tomorrow’s the night! Kick off summer with Welcome Wednesday on June 24 from 4–8 p.m. with FREE admission and parking for all visitors. Bring your family and friends to explore the barns, exhibitions, and activities happening throughout the evening.

On National Indigenous Peoples Day we are proud to feature exhibitions that highlight Indigenous leadership, resilience, and connections to land and community, built with our Indigenous partners:

Nidòndàdizimin nidjìbikànàng: Thriving from our roots. This trilingual display—in Algonquin, English and French—shares the words and voices of Asha Meness King and Joan Tenasco of the Kitigan Zibi Anishinaabe. This display celebrates the enduring presence of the Algonquin people on their traditional territories. https://ow.ly/8v3a50ZcRo0

The Island in the Middle of Everywhere uses powerful photography and video to share the Xwe’etay/Lasqueti Archaeological Project in British Columbia, where Coast Salish peoples and settler residents work together to honour the island’s deep Indigenous presence. https://ow.ly/EZV350ZcRnZ

Opening in July, we look forward to to the opening of Manoominike: A Living History which introduces manoomin, the aquatic plant Zizania palustris, known as wild rice and the Knowledge Keepers who are restoring rice beds in Rice Lake and Chemong Lake in Central Ontario.

We hope visitors will come with curiosity and respect, taking time to learn from and discover the stories, knowledge, and perspectives shared through these exhibitions.
