Ingenium operates three national museums in Ottawa that cover soil to space–and everything in between. Located on a national heritage site, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is the world’s only working farm in the heart of a capital city. The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to see diverse breeds of farm animals—important to past and present Canadian agriculture—and to learn about

the food they eat. In addition to breeds common to Canadian agriculture, such as Holstein dairy cows and Angus beef cows, the museum also has Canadienne and Milking Shorthorn dairy cows, and Tamworth pigs. Many other breeds of dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, poultry, goats, rabbits and even honeybees round out the collection. Museum programs and exhibitions are related to Canada’s agricultural heritage, food literacy, and the benefits and relationship of agricultural science and technology to Canadians’ everyday lives. Public programming also includes school programs, summer day camps, interpretive tours, demonstrations, and joint undertakings with community groups and associations.

We appreciated this recent review:
“There are things to do outside like playing on the playground (which was a huge hit with my two-year-old) but there are a lot of indoor activities and exhibitions as well… The biggest indoor win is the massive play kitchen with lots of fun accessories. They also have an itinerary of events taking place throughout the day such as story time, horse feeding, and live baking demonstrations. We enjoyed three fun hours here!”

We love hearing from happy visitors and we hope to see you at the museum soon! https://ow.ly/9pBH50Z3aON

In our new exhibition The Art of Science, scientific illustrator Jessica Hsiung and scientific photographer Jule Anne Dorval combine their talents to create this striking hybrid image. One half is Hsiung’s digital illustration; the other is Dorval’s stacked macro photograph.

It might just be the best moment of the season, when the dairy cows head out after afternoon milking for their first evening trip to pasture. 🐄
Some take their time, others are in a hurry. Either way, it’s a sign of spring and a sight we never get tired of.
