Does Your Toilet Have a Shut Off Valve?

Water supply to the toilet fills the toilet tank and is released from the tank into the bowl flushing the waste away.

Having a shut off valve for your toilet tank is a very good idea, as the toilet can be shut off if there is a leak, without shutting off the main house valve.

Many older homes that have not been updated do not have a valve- they are directly plumbed into the water supply system.
This can be an issue if isolating the toilet because of a leak needs to be done.

Protect your home from leaks from your toilet and ensure you have a shut off valve.
Sometimes, if these valves are old they can leak and not hold the water, so check them regularly!

Your sewer line!
Your main sewer line is the most important part of the waste system in your home.

The main sewer line (often referred to as the Sewer Lateral) is the large horizontal pipe that runs under your home and removes the waste water from the fixtures in your home.

Every fixture in your home has a drain: toilets, sinks, showers, washing machines, and more.

To help prevent major backups or other sewer line problems, we recommend getting your main sewer line scoped every year to check for roots, breaks, offsets, or other serious issues.

This is especially true if you have been experiencing repeated blockages or backups in recent months or years. 🚽

As well, make sure you are only putting the right things down your drains, as these can lead to unexpected and messy backups!

Toilet blockages are a pain, but they can be prevented!

Check out these tips on how to keep your throne running free!

1) Toilets are only made for flushing toilet paper and human waste.

2) Using too much toilet paper, thicker brands of toilet paper, and other “papers” such as paper towel rolls, can cause soft blockages in your sewer line.

3) “Flushable wipes” are almost never flushable as they do not break down and often get stuck on the inside of your sewer line, which can build up over time and cause sewage backups.

4) Hard stools can be caused by certain medications; if you are finding you are blocking the toilet often, a toilet with a stronger flush is recommended.

5) Hygiene products such as pads and tampons should never be flushed down the toilet; rather, please dispose of them in the garbage or hygiene-specific receptacle.

6) Hard blockages are caused when denser/harder foreign objects are flushed, such as pet or children toys, false teeth, product bottles, the occasional unfortunate cellphone, and animal bones.

7) Best practices include closing the toilet lid when not in use, removing items from around the toilet that could fall in, and closing the door to the bathroom if you have children or pets.

Training day!
Back to basics!- soldering copper pipes.
All of our crew have an automatic copper pressing machine now, so soldering is becoming old school.
However, sometimes doing things the old way works in certain situations.
Lots of practicing and checking joints and lots of laughs too!
