🌱Seedling Saturdays - Soft Opening the Farmstand!

For the next two Saturday's (May 23 & 30th) the farmstand will be slowly opening for the regular season! We will have offerings of seedlings that are hardened off and ready to plant from 10am-4pm at 4402 Limestone Road.

This Saturday will have more cold season crops that are ready to plant, and the following Saturday will be warmer season crops such as cucumbers, melon, and squash. With the overnight low temperatures continuing through May it has taken more time to get these plants ready for their life in the great outdoors.

Saturday May 24th offerings:
🥬Scotch Curled Kale seedlings
🥦Broccoli seedlings
🍅Large Variety Tomatoes
🫑Bell Pepper seedlings
🌶Jalapeño seedlings
🌼Crackerjack Marigold seedlings

Also:
🫓Fresh picked Rhubarb bundles
🌿Fresh picked Oregano
🥚Farm Fresh Eggs from free range happy hens!

Our regular weekend market hours of EVERY Saturday & Sunday will BEGIN on June 6th; so be sure to like and follow this page to get weekly updates on what fresh produce will be available each week! 👍💚

Picked up our box of beeps this morning! Twenty five meat birds, 6 turkey poults, and 6 "hatch day choice" laying chicks! I love a good mystery... I can't tell which ones are the layers till they get bigger 🤪🧐🔍

OK gardeners; I see you 👀 👨‍🌾👩‍🌾

You're looking at the calendar, seeing that long weekend approaching and you're thinking 'its time to get my garden planted!'. But the problem is that Mother Nature cares not what the calendar says and our overnight temps are still VERY cold. 🥶
"But the overnight temps on the weekend look fine!" Yup, I see that too... and tonights frost warning. ❄️

Look; I totally get it! Gardeners have waiting a LONG winter to start digging in the soil, and the Victoria Day long weekend is typically when we kick off... but trust me, not everything is ready like we are. Its likely safe to plant out some cold crops...peas, kale, maybe even some broccoli... but your heat loving crops are a no go. 🚫 I won't be thinking about planting out tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, or other sensitive crops until the first week of June. 🍅🍆🫑 The soil will still be cold for a bit and planting these out now will cause the plant stress, meaning shock, poor growth, slower fruiting, and if we get another hard frost at the end of May.... tragedy.

It's okay to wait. I plan to start hardening off my seedlings over the long weekend to ensure they're ready for the overnight temperature fluctuations... once it's safe to do so. I started some plants indoors as early as February and it would be such a waste to risk their success now.

So yes, we will be selling extra seedlings we have grown! But not this coming weekend... a tentative date is set for Sunday May 24th 😉 I want your gardens to flourish and for you to be a successful grower! So by ensuring the plants I sell you are healthy, soil temps are safe, and the weather is cooperative: we will all have a wonderful growing season! 🫶

Happy Mother's Day! 💐

Yesterday I had the privilege of being the guest speaker at the Dunrobin Women's Institute. It was a beautiful setting surrounded by beautiful women, where I got to speak about women in agriculture.

Women hold an incredible power, most of these women including myself, are mothers. Together they are raising awareness and demanding positive changes in development for our families and friends right here in our local community.

I felt so appreciated and honored be sitting among these ladies. May we celebrate all the different types of Mom's and Mother's today! May we love them, appreciate them, and raise the next generation of incredible women. 💪🎀🩷

Our beautiful muscovy ducks are laying some beautiful nutritious eggs this spring! Our ducks only lay in the spring and fall so these are a seasonal delight you DO NOT want to miss out on! 🥚🍳

Duck eggs are richer, more nutrient dense, and are the most sought after for baking! I once made a quiche using all duck eggs and it was so rich, fluffy, and spongey... it was incredibly delicious!! 🥘🤤

Farmgate pick up, send us a message to reserve yours today before the season ends! ⏰️

P.S.: Yes, there are a few ducks who aren't giving up their eggs and have made beautiful nests around themselves...fingers crossed for ducklings! 🦆
