ZENTIS MARZIPAN POTATOES:

If you grew up with these, you already know. Each little potato is carefully shaped and lightly dusted with cocoa powder for that classic rustic look. Inside, you get a delightfully soft, fine-textured marzipan that melts right on the tongue.

This year we’ve brought them in with a few different twists: including Speculaas, rum, and even mango! More Marzipan items will arrive later!

NEW THIS YEAR: PREMIUM KERSTBROOD (Stollen):
Well, usually Sinterklaas comes first, right? We were bit suprised that these new stollen showed up as one of the first seasonal products!

These premium stollen we’ve brought in come in amazing flavors like almond butter, rum, and so much more (and yes, they freeze really well!)

SINTERKLAAS & CHRISTMAS update !

FINALLY, some Sinterklaas items have arrived, and on top of that, we’ve got something funny to share: but you’ll read all about that a little later in the newsletter!

We’ve just unpacked some kruidnootjes, some chocolade kruidnootjes, and the famous taai taai!

Lately, so many people have been asking for pepernoten and kruidnoten, or wondering what the actual difference is between the two.

Het verschil (The difference):

Kruidnoten are small, hard, crunchy, round cookies spiced with speculaaskruiden (gingerbread spices). They look a bit like tiny little rocks.

Pepernoten (the traditional ones) are completely different: they are softer, chewy, irregular in shape, and made with honey and anise (anijs)!

Geen zorgen: right now we have received our first batch of kruidnoten, next week more are on the way, and later this season we will finally receive the real traditional pepernoten. We will aankondigen (announce) it as soon as they are here!

Chocoladeletters (chocolate letters) are coming in real, real soon too! We are still waiting on the exact delivery date, but it can’t be too long now. Gezellig!

NEW CHEESE: This cheese couldn't possibly be any more Dutch.

Amsterdamse Uitjes (Pickled Onion, see below more info!) cheese. To be honest, I'm kind of surprised this wasn't invented sooner. If you grew up going to Dutch birthday parties (kringverjaardagen) surrounded by traditional bitterballen and snack tables, you know that cheese and little pickled Amsterdam onions are an absolute staple. Put them together and it just makes sense. You get that punchy pickled onion flavor, rich creamy Gouda, and a tiny bit of satisfying crunch.

Honestly, slice this up for a sandwich, melt it on a burger, or just eat it straight off the cutting board. It's fantastic.

What are Amsterdamse Uitjes?

Amsterdamse uitjes are small, crisp cocktail onions pickled in a bright, lightly spiced vinegar brine.

Unlike sharp, pungent raw onions, these have a clean, tangy bite with a subtle touch of sweetness and a really satisfying crunch. They aren't face-puckeringly sour like a dill pickle; instead, they have a mellow, aromatic profile

On top of the usual goodies, we’ve also got a ton of lovely giftware coming in for both occasions, which we’ll show you in upcoming updates.

And looking ahead: Sinterklaas falls on December 5th this year! We will share all the details about our local event a bit later on.

New cheese: Basiron Kimchi. When I was ordering it, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. But let me tell you, it is an absolute home run. It hits you with that great creaminess of Gouda, paired with a Kimchi flavor that isn't overly sour, backed by just the right little kick of heat. It's delicious!

Cheese of the week: Battle of the GOAT!

This week, we’re putting two heavyweights head-to-head: Hommage Goat versus Beemster Goat.

If you haven't tried Dutch goat cheese in a while, it might be time for a re-introduction. Over the past few years, the craft has come such a long way.
Gone are the days when goat cheese carried that heavy, overpowering "barnyard" tang that used to hide behind the flavor. Modern cheese making has refined the process, bringing out rich, clean, and completely unique profiles that let the subtle sweetness and nuttiness of the milk truly shine.

Both of these are incredible sliced up on a fresh baguette or a soft white roll, melted into a warm salad, or stealing the show on a charcuterie board!

Which one is your favourite?

It’s getting colder and more rainy, which, let's be honest, feels right at home for a Dutchie and suddenly pumpkin and fall flavors are everywhere. Naturally, we had to give our cheese the same treatment.

We’ve brought in a limited stock of two fantastic fall-inspired cheeses:

Warm Spiced Pumpkin Cheese: Rich, creamy, and loaded with those cozy, aromatic autumn spices that just scream comfort food.

Hatch Pepper Cheese: It brings a fantastic, mild smokiness with just a subtle kick of earthy heat from genuine Hatch chiles that cuts right through the rich, buttery flavor of the cheese.

It’s arguably the most important speech of the year. Every Prinsjesdag, always the third Tuesday of September (yesterday), King Willem-Alexander takes the stage on behalf of the cabinet to lay out the government's plans and policies for the upcoming parliamentary year.

This year had an interesting layer to it, too. Because Prinsjesdag happened to fall on the International Day of Democracy, the central theme struck a chord: Democratie en Verbinding (Democracy and Connection). There was a real call for more community spirit and less polarization, with the King pointing out that true democracy goes way beyond just "the right of half plus one."

Naturally, sitting in front of the screen watching it all unfold, I got a bit hungry and decided to grab the most popular Dutch chips out there: Paprika chips.

You literally can't find this flavor on Canadian grocery shelves, but back in the Netherlands? It is by far the undisputed king of the chip aisle. It's got that subtle, warm, sweet-and-smoky profile from the ground pepper, not spicy or super tangy at all!

The Lays Chips Paprika is this week 20% Off!
