✨ Have you ever heard of Kintsugi? ✨

Apparently, there is a Japanese art called Kintsugi, where broken pottery is repaired, and the cracks are highlighted — traditionally with gold — instead of being hidden.

The idea is that something doesn’t become worthless just because it’s been broken. In fact, the repair becomes part of its story. ❤️

Which brings me to these poor little casualties from our latest Borenbont order… 😭

A couple of beautiful pieces arrived broken, and instead of tossing them, I started wondering…

Should I try my hand at Kintsugi and give them a second life? 👀

Now, I have absolutely NO idea whether this will result in something beautiful… or whether this is going to become another episode of “Alicia had an idea…” 😂

But I kind of want to try it!

7 Days of Gratitude — Day 7

And just like that, we've made it to Day 7.

Today, I'm grateful for the journey.

Oranje Grove started back in 2015, and when I think about everything that has happened since then...wow.

We've moved. We've grown. We've changed. We've tried things that worked, tried things that definitely DIDN'T work, learned a whole lot along the way, and somehow just kept going.

There have been incredibly busy days and painfully quiet ones. There have been moments when I've wondered what on earth I was doing, and others when I've stood back and thought, I can't believe we built this.

And through every version of Oranje Grove, there has been one constant:

You.

The people who have walked through our doors.

The customers who have followed us from one location to another.

The people who tell their friends about us, share our posts, bring their families in, place an order, stop for a visit, or simply say, “I love your store.”

You may never realize how much those little moments mean to a small business owner.

Eleven years ago, Oranje Grove was an idea.

Today, it's a little shop filled with products, laughter, conversations, familiar faces, new faces, memories and a whole lot of heart.

And I am incredibly grateful for every single person who has been part of getting us here.

So as we head into Thanksgiving, I just want to say:

Thank you.

Thank you for supporting my little business.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your traditions.

Thank you for being part of ours.

From my family and the entire Oranje Grove family to yours, Happy Thanksgiving.

7 Days of Gratitude — Day 6

Today, I'm grateful for the little things.

I think sometimes we're so busy waiting for the BIG things to happen that we forget just how good the little things can be.

A really good cup of coffee.
Someone holding the door for you.
A customer who makes you laugh.
Hearing your favourite song at exactly the right time.
A sunny fall day.
Walking into the shop in the morning and smelling fresh stroopwafels.
Getting everything crossed off your to-do list. (Okay...that one might actually be a miracle.

They're such ordinary things, but when you start paying attention, you realize there are little moments to be grateful for everywhere.

And some days, it's those tiny things that can completely turn your day around.

So today, I'm trying to notice them a little more.

What's one LITTLE thing you're grateful for today?

It doesn't have to be profound. Maybe you got five minutes to yourself. Maybe someone brought you coffee. Maybe the kids didn't argue this morning. 😂

Whatever it is, I want to hear it!

7 Days of Gratitude — Day 5

Today, I’m grateful for FAMILY.

If you’ve been around Oranje Grove for a while, you probably already know that this truly is a family business.

And when I say family business, I mean everyone gets recruited.

There have been boxes carried, shelves stocked, orders packed, errands run, opinions given (whether I asked for them or not), and plenty of “Can you just help me with one quick thing?” moments that were definitely NOT quick.

But behind all the craziness, I know how incredibly lucky I am.

Owning a small business takes a lot. There are busy seasons, stressful days, big decisions, long hours and plenty of moments when I bring the business home with me — sometimes literally!

And through all of it, my family has been there.

They’ve encouraged me, helped me, listened to my ideas, celebrated the wins and stepped in when I’ve needed them most.

Oranje Grove wouldn't be what it is today without the people I get to call family.

So today, I’m especially thankful for them.

7 Days of Gratitude — Day 4

Today, I’m grateful for traditions.

One of my favourite parts of owning Oranje Grove is hearing the stories that come through our doors.

“This was always at my Oma’s house.”

“My mom used to buy these.”

“I haven’t seen this since I was a kid!”

"It smells like Sunday Soup in here!"

Or watching someone bring their children or grandchildren into the store and introduce them to something they grew up with.

Those moments are pretty special.

Food has this incredible way of bringing us back to a certain person, place or time. Sometimes all it takes is opening a package, smelling something familiar or taking that first bite — and suddenly you’re right back there.

Oranje Grove may be a Dutch shop, but I think that feeling is universal. We all have foods and traditions that remind us of home. ❤️

I’m incredibly grateful that, in our own little way, we get to be part of keeping some of those traditions going — and maybe even helping create a few new ones along the way.

So today I want to know:

I love it when I get text messages like this!

And I also love how supportive my husband has been through all the years of my Oranje Grove journey. From the very beginning, he has always been in my corner — cheering me on, listening to all my crazy ideas, helping when I need an extra set of hands, and celebrating right along with me when something exciting arrives!
And THIS is definitely one of those exciting days!

Getting shipments all the way from the Netherlands is always a little nerve-racking.

There are so many opportunities for something to go wrong along the way — boxes get damaged, things break, items go missing, and sometimes things just seem to disappear somewhere between there and here!
So when I get a text saying a skid has arrived, my first question is always... “Does it look okay?!”
And his response this time?
“Looks mint.”
Even better... IT'S ALL DELFT BLUE! 😍🇳🇱
This shipment arrived looking absolutely beautiful, and now the fun begins! We’ll be working hard to unpack everything, check it all over, price it, and get all of these gorgeous new pieces out onto the shelves for you.
I cannot WAIT for you to see what came in! 💙🤍 Stay tuned... there's a whole lot of Delft Blue headed to the shop floor!

Today, I'm feeling especially grateful for our COMMUNITY! ❤️

They say it takes a village, and I couldn't agree more!

When you own a small business, you quickly realize that your success isn't just about what you sell. It's about the people who walk through your doors, the friendships you build, and the community that rallies around you.

Every time you choose to shop local, share one of our posts, recommend us to a friend or simply stop in to say hello, you're making a difference.

And trust me, those little things are actually BIG things to a small business owner! 🥰

I'm so incredibly thankful to be part of the Listowel community and to have the support of so many wonderful people from the surrounding towns and villages.

🍂7 Days of Gratitude — Day 2

Today, I'm feeling extra thankful for the wonderful people who help make Oranje Grove what it is!

Running a small business isn't always easy. There are long days, busy seasons, endless to-do lists and, of course, those days when absolutely nothing goes according to plan!

But having the right people by your side makes all the difference.

I'm so incredibly grateful for our little team. For the early mornings, the hard work, the laughter, the willingness to jump in wherever needed and, most importantly, for the care they put into everything they do.

They put up with my crazy ideas, my never-ending list of things to do and my occasional "I have an idea!" moments. And somehow, they still show up the next day!

I truly couldn't do this without them.

So today, I'm raising a big THANK YOU to the people behind the scenes who help keep Oranje Grove running. You are appreciated more than you know!

7 Days of Gratitude — Day 1

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, I've been thinking about all the things I have to be thankful for.

And right at the top of that list? YOU!

When I started Oranje Grove back in 2015, I never could have imagined all the wonderful people I would meet along the way.

Some of you have been with us since our St. Jacobs Market days. Others discovered us in Palmerston, and many of you have found us right here in Listowel.

Whether you've been shopping with us for years, visited us just once, shared one of our posts or told a friend about our little shop, you've played a part in our story.

And for that, I am truly grateful.

THEY'RE HERE! THEY'RE HERE!

And would you believe it?! This is the EARLIEST we have EVER received our chocolate letters!

We are absolutely thrilled (and maybe just a little overwhelmed by all these boxes! 😂).

We'll be working our little Dutch hearts out today to get those delicious chocolate letters, chocolate kruidnoten, and all the other goodies unpacked and onto our shelves!

Stay tuned! We'll let you know as soon as everything is ready!
