An early summer harvest of chamomile. The flowers will be dried on a screen and used for tea.

Chamomile is known for its relaxing effects to support sleep. It's also anti-inflammatory.

Here’s why you don’t want to leave your soft drink in the sun.

During my presentation last week at The Locality Wellness Hub on the topic of “How Processed Foods are Making us Sick”, I spoke of potassium benzoate, a food preservative found in products like soft drinks. When combined with vitamin C and exposed to heat or sunlight, it can form small amounts of benzene - a carcinogenic chemical.

This is why I suggest not leaving your soft drinks in the sun! Not to be fearful, but to offer awareness.

Other foods you might find potassium benzoate in include fruit juices, jams, pickles, relishes, salad dressings, condiments, and packaged snacks.

Truthfully, soft drinks don’t offer any nourishment our bodies need. However, choosing fresh foods and making small swaps - like water with lemon or a cup of herbal tea - can be a way to support your body.

Does anybody remember when I use to handwrite all the purchase receipts? 🙂

Here’s a photo from our early days before we had a fancy computer system to print receipts.

It’s amazing to reflect on how much the store progressed through the years. It was such a gradual process it’s easy to forget its humble beginnings. Starting with a small selection of vitamins and continually adding more brands, more products, and helping more people along the way.

I know being online isn’t the same as being in person and what I’ll miss the most in leaving Parkhill will be the conversations and personal connections with all of you. Those relationships are what made going to work easy and enjoyable.

At the same time, I’m also excited for what’s ahead. Moving online allows me to offer even more supplement brands and value-added services than ever before. It will be different, and there will be a learning curve, but it’s also something to look forward to.

I’m going to take some time over the coming weeks to forge ahead with the digital expansion and I hope you will all continue with me on this journey. I have so much gratitude for the trust and support over the years…. thank you!
