Rootdown Organic Farm Rootdown Organic Farm is a certified organic farm in Pemberton, BC. Currently the girls have about 5 acres of mixed vegetables in production.

We grow over 25 varieties of field and hoop-house vegetables delivered to customers through our CSA Harvest Box program and available in grocery stores in nearby communities. Rootdown Organic Farm is a small-scale, organic farm situated in the Pemberton Meadows, British Columbia. Started in 2009, the farm is owned and operated by Sarah and Simone who met in 2008 at the UBC Farm at the University o

f British Columbia in the Sowing Seeds Apprenticeship program; helped along by an additional small but mighty crew of hardworking folks each year - some seasonal, some year round. Surrounded by mountains, the farm is blessed with a flat, fertile valley bottom, bordered on both sides by glacial rivers. Rootdown markets their products in Pemberton and Whistler to restaurants and grocery stores, and through their CSA Harvest Box program.

Check out our new permanent bear fence (built to grizzly bear standards), built by awesome part time team member and friend, Katy!

It encompasses our whole 2026 field space at our Main Farm location in the mid Pemberton Meadows and we are stoked 🙌

A few years ago we started putting up grizzly bear fences around our key attractants as grizzly bears started moving south in the valley - things like squash, melons, radicchio, but most especially carrots 🥕🥕🥕

But then we got sick of taking down and putting up these fences to keep up with our crop rotation. And so we decided to invest and put up a permanent, whole field fence.

It's been a lot of work this spring and an added expense, but we are so thrilled with it! And now we can keep ourselves, our carrots, AND our local bears safe. Coexistence in action.

Because humans aren't the only creatures that live and play in the Sea to Sky, and we want to be good neighbour's to all our fellow residents!

A few silly photos from our staff potluck last week!

The whole Rootdown Farm crew, plus some partners. Many returning faces this year, which we are so excited and grateful for!

It's another all lady crew in the fields, with TJ doing some of the deliveries and helping with special projects on the side of his other job 🙌

Apparently we aren't very good at coordinating funny vs happy smiling faces, but luckily we DO work great as a team on the farm, and many hands make light work.

So say thanks to the people growing your food this year! We couldn't do it without each and every one of them.

📢📢 Rootdown will be making a guest appearance at the today, Friday the 5th from 3-6, at the Community Barn in town!!

So come say hi to Simone and Marisol who will be behind the market tables today!

We have lots of early season goodness - like these **first** baby zucchini, crisp cucumbers, gorgeous greens, crunchy carrots and more!

The work we do is hard, but fun, satisfying and delicious too - and this article gives but the tiniest glimpse into it.

Thanks also to Lisa for highlighting the shifting nature of the farm scene in Pemberton - there are a lot of elements that make farming particularly challenging these days, so remember to get out and support your local farms - so we can keep farmin and producing fresh, local, tasty food for our communities!

Some things that happened on the farm this week!

Pic 1 - first gorgeous kale harvest of the season!

Videos 3 and 4 - Making progress learning to use our *new* steerable cultivator (w**der) attachment with the generous help of Kerry and Budgie from . We are on a blank bed, so as not to kill baby carrots as we learn! But eventually will use this machine to w**d all our beets and carrots - saving us HOURS of time over the course of the season, and saving everyone's backs a little bit as well! Thanks to for the customization for our bed spacing and awesome tools.

So much more happened, but this is what we managed to snap some photos of.

However plants were transplanted.

The hot crops (tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant, basil) in the greenhouse were trellised and pruned and are growing great guns.

New crops available for grocery and restaurant partners.

Weeds grew and were slayed. Lots on the go!

Perfect morning for a perfect hakurei harvest!

These sweet, crunchy roots (also known as salad turnips, but more reminiscent of a sweet, not spicy radish then a regular turnip) are a Japanese specialty that have gained much popularity in our neck of the woods in recent decades. And they are at their prime in the spring and early summer!

Our grocery and farmstand partners in Pemberton and Whistler will be stocked with them this Friday.

Perfect eaten raw as a snack or in salads, OR stir fried or even roasted (try with a miso maple glaze), they are aa versatile as they are unique.

Did you know even the greens are edible?? Can be eaten raw or lightly cooked, like a young kale.

Did you buy plants from our Transplant Sale last week?

Well if so, we LOVE ❤️ when you return the plant pots - especially the 4" and larger pots (i.e. the tomato and pepper, or rhubarb pots). In an effort to reduce plastic waste, we will use any pots that get returned to us that are in good condition!

(Please, no need to return broken/cracked pots, please recycle those instead.)

So swing on by 7717 Pemberton Meadows Rd snd drop them in this big tub in the coming week! Just at the front of the driveway for easy access.
