From a grassy lawn to now a sleeping farm field, our Squamish plot has completed its first season!
Throughout the year we tried to capture the transformation of this piece of land to both show the journey of a farmer’s field but also to show how much biodiversity comes from replacing a lawn with a garden.
Ironically I wasn’t able to find a lot of photos of the garden in peak bloom… but that’s probably because I had my hands full with harvesting!!
A huge thanks goes to the friends that helped bring this plot to life, Robbie at for letting us use the space, and Mother Nature for doing her thing.
Until the spring, the plot will stay covered. The tarps allow the soil to preserve nutrients and avoid compaction. The chopped up crops underneath the tarps will also slowly biodegrade and feed the microorganisms in the soil. All of these things contribute to a healthy start to next year’s garden and a healthy home for the critters that live here💚🐞
