Farming is all about the circle of life. On social media you often see only the good stuff highlighted, the new life, the thriving gardens, the fresh eggs.. but very often behind all of that is the weird hours, the lives lost, the unfortunate toll that the weather can take, and the constant battle of finding balance while dealing with predators.
This page is a space for honesty. You won't find Ai here, or photo shopped pictures, you won't find a highlight reel of a polished, fantasy life.
This week we have been dealing with extreme heat, there is a very good chance that my small sad garden won't produce a thing, and that's ok because I'm learning lessons and putting in place a better game plan for next year.
This week a very large raccoon has been helping himself to a variety of my birds. It doesn't seem to matter how secure that I think I have them, he is smarter, or more determined. Everyday I add another level of security and every morning I find that he has outsmarted me. It's not ok, but I understand, he is just out here trying to survive like the rest of us.
This is the reality of this life. I won't share pictures of the devastation that Mr. C**n created, so here is a cute kitten instead.
