Change is never easy, especially when you’re carrying forward generations of tradition.

John once shared how much he misses farming with his dad and how he hopes his dad would be proud of the path Red Shed has taken and the value it has brought back to the family farm.

We think he’d be incredibly proud.

Today, we’re celebrating all the fathers whose legacy lives on—in the fields they worked, the values they passed down, and the generations still carrying them forward.

A huge thank you to our customers for choosing Red Shed Malt. It’s always rewarding to see Canadian-grown malt heading out to breweries across the country.

Today’s shipments are headed to amazing craft breweries like Village Brewery, Tailgunner Brewing Co., Blindman Brewing, Brewsmith Brewing, and Talking Dog Brewing.

Great beer and whisky starts in the soil. 🌾

On our family farm, we’ve always believed that exceptional malt begins with exceptional barley. For generations, we’ve grown malt barley that consistently meets the highest quality standards thanks to good management practices and our favourable growing conditions—rich black soil, warm days, and cool nights.

Last year, we expanded our malt barley acres, giving Red Shed an even larger pool of grain to select from. That means we can be more selective than ever, hand-picking only the cream of the crop.

The result? Low protein, plump kernels, minimal disease, and the consistency brewers and distillers count on—season after season.

Beer Style – Munich Helles 🍺

Like Kananaskis Country Golf Club, this recipe is one hell of a Muni! ⛳️

Bad joke, our apologies, but that is one heck of a golf course—and this is one heck of a beer to enjoy after a round. Smooth, crisp, and easy-drinking, Munich Helles is a classic German lager that delivers subtle malt character and exceptional balance without demanding your full attention.

Nice and approachable, but with just enough depth of flavour to pique your interest and keep you coming back for another sip. 🌾🍺

A million-dollar rain. That’s how many Central Alberta farmers are describing the recent weather. Farmer John said he’s never seen the ground soak up inches of water so quickly. The rain has been a welcome sight across the region, soaking into fields and giving crops a timely boost as the growing season gets underway. 🙏

Malt of the Month – Caribou Malt 🦌

As May comes to a close, we’re shining a spotlight on a malt that doesn’t often need one: Caribou Malt.

Our Caribou Malt is a love-hate relationship. We hate to make it and you love to use it! Ok, it’s not actually that bad to make anymore, fortunately we’ve streamlined the process over the years, allowing us to keep this award-winning malt in regular production. 🙏

Our Caribou malt earned silver medals in the Caramel category at both the 2024 and 2026 MaltCup competitions 🥈🥈 and has found its way into numerous provincial and national award-winning beers.

Our website may show low inventory, but that’s usually because we rarely have more than half a pallet sitting in the warehouse. If you’re looking for some, reach out and we’ll let you know what’s on hand.

Outstanding in their field - Radium Brewing 🌾

After hearing a podcast highlighting the value and flavour craft malt brings to brewing, Steve reached out to us — and the rest, as they say, is history.

Radium Brewing has been a huge supporter of Red Shed, and we’re equally big fans of what they’re building. Their community — along with the many tourists passing through — clearly agrees.

Enjoying one of their brews on the spectacular patio, surrounded by mountain views, is about as close to paradise as it gets. And if you want to make a getaway of it, Parks Canada offers oTENTik accommodations at Redstreak Campground just across the highway.🍻🏔️✨
